In what form would you like to get the Liotes Missions?

In what form would you like to get the Liotes Missions.jpg

In our last Liotes Mission we have asked your opinion regarding our onboarding project. First, I would like thank you all for the amazing comments that were submitted.

However, I also realised that for a lot of you guys it was difficult to understand the video in English. So far, most of our missions were mainly in video form but this made me think and I would like to have your opinion regarding it. Our missions should be accessible to as many people as possible. For many of you English is not your first language and when you need to translate the mission, it's maybe easier if it is in written form? Please tell us what you think so that in the future we can present our missions in the best way possible:

Would you like to continue to have the liotes missions in video form or would you prefer to have them in written form? Feel free to explain your point. Did you watch the videos in the past? Or were you relying on the formulated written question?

People who submit an answer will get 3 credits for the Liotes ranking. If you submit more than 1 answer, you will not get more credits.

We are very grateful if you enter the challenge within 24 hours after the post is published. We will try to count entries up to 36 hours after publication.

In my case more often I prefer written form of post.
Of course I watched videos earlier but due restrictions and that now I need to use VPN to watch it I prefer written form.
On the other side if hand as a suggestion maybe once you can move to podcasts form. So it can be comfortable for people who let's imagine driving car and listening you or want to stay tuned in the road to work or to swimming pool ;)

Thanks for the idea of podcast. That could be an idea :-)

I prefer to have the missions in writing, since in the videos they don't even have the option of subtitles. Translators are not perfect but they allow us to better understand the message. Thank you for taking this option into account for those of us who don't speak English.

Thanks a lot for your feed-back. It's true that things can be difficult to understand without subtitles and it's not possible to add them yet with 3speak.

I hope 3Speak will implement them in the future, I am sure they will arrive with time.

Anyway, not even in my language I consume much audiovisual content, except movies and series. Everything that involves serious intellectual work I need to read to learn it. I’m old school. 🤣

It's true that it can be quicker and easier to learn stuff in written form. I like to learn as well from written than from video content but I think it's a very personal matter what works best for us :-)

I actually prefer youtube as a medium because I can switch on the subtitles. It isn't because I cannot understand you but there are times in which turning up the volume to listen could be inconvenient. :)

We actually use the video form of 3speak because they often give nice upvotes to our videos but I get your point that it could be useful to have subtitles when it's inconvenient to listen with the volume up.

I am fine with both video and words. If I have to pick a preference, it would be words because I can read faster than people talk in videos most of the time. Lol.

That's a good point. From a speed point of view, text is much faster I believe.

Personally I prefer reading to watching. I read fast, and I'm usually quite impatient. Although I get around it somewhat by setting the video speed for all online videos to a min of 1.5 speed usually. Maybe, a transcription of the video perhaps? 😁

I also turn up the speed when I watch videos :-). I try to turn it up as much as possible in order to just still be understandable lol

Tbh, I read the writing first and after I need a further detail, I'll watch the video to understand the mission. English isn't my main language and I never want to get subtitles with my main language as it'll be misleading or misinterpreted which usually happens. For example: Cinema translation is better than Google translation for English to Indonesia 😂.

The feedback from me is that you just need to volume up your mic. I don't know if it's from 3speak or your video. The volume is kinda lower than the other videos from YouTube.

Overall, I usually just watch the videos to hear the updates rather than the mission 😂. !LOL

So, the answer is keeping both? 🤷‍♂️ But if I need to choose, put your words on your video to the written question 👍. No need to formulate it. Full version with the details or example that you usually say in the video.

Why not both? :D I like the video form, but repeating the basic mission in text would probably help more people understand it.

That's definitely the best solution... I just have to overcome the laziness to do both lol

I'm ok with either version, written or video. But I understand why it would be a problem for people not speaking English. I just imagined you speaking German instead of English (which I'm sure you do, being Swiss). I wouldn't understand a thing. While if it would be written in German, I'd have the option to translate it.

You made a good example and if we put ourselves into the shoes of somebody not understanding the language, then it makes a lot of sense to rather go for a written, translatable version.

Maybe videos with a summary, sometimes I read while traveling and not very convenient to turn on audio in a crowd.

That's a good point. Especially for people who check the mission from their phone, it's not always possible to listen to it aloud.

As I don't speak much English, in video form it's difficult to understand and participate in what's being said. So if one day there are subtitles and we can put it in Portuguese, that would be great, but at the moment I prefer it to be written. Of course you can make the videos as normal, but write a summary or the main part of the mission in the post, so everyone can understand and interact better.

Thanks a lot for your feed-back. It would be great to have the possibility to have subtitles on videos but I totally understand that without them it can be tricky to understand a video in a foreign tongue.

That's exactly it, I need to learn English quickly haha, but I keep dreaming of 3speak being able to add subtitles natively, that would be really cool.

The video format is great (I play it while doing other things, lol). But considering those who need translations, the written format would be okay too.

Thanks a lot for the feed-back. I think that even the written form could be played by the AI in the peakd articles if necessary :-)

English is not my forte, I translate almost all the articles I read into Spanish, but I also watch the video, because I understand some things.
But I prefer the written word, because I can translate it and understand the context better.

The truth is that I don't have a clear preference, perhaps it's better in writing, which is easier for those of us who don't master the language.

I have to admit that I was often not really aware how people were consuming content in another language. It makes sense the the written form makes things easier for them.

I don't have any preference. I do watch the videos but I do think the written form is easier for the people who don't have english as their first language.

You should continue with the video format. But, also add written text in few words/lines, so that it's beneficial to guys/girls who depend on translations.

Or can you generate a transcript from the video. I have seen them on youtube videos.
This way you don't need to write again. Maybe do some editing.

The readers, can then use google to translate to their choice of language.

The advantage of being able to pull the transcript out of the video would be that I don't have to create a video and a post. That would save some time :-)

Thank you for bringing up this topic. As I mentioned in the last post, there is a certain difficulty in understanding for those who do not speak English. I think the video format could continue because I know it helps with more extensive explanations. So, I would like to suggest that, in addition to the video, a summary of what was discussed be provided, as this would make it easier to understand in case any doubts arise for those who do not have a good command of the English language.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I think that a hybrid solution would be quite appropriate. Now I have to find a solution that doesn't take too much time to produce :-)

As my native language is not English, I find it difficult to understand the videos, so I often resort to what is written in the text. However, an English subtitle on the videos would help a lot!

When we post videos, we often have like 15 video views but up to 40 comments. This means that a lot of people don't really watch the videos. In the last mission I saw that it's not really a reason of lazyness but simply because they struggle to understand the english in the videos.

I'm a bit late; I don't know, I probably forgot this because I was late on Wednesday, but in principle, I think it can be as it is now, either a question or a video. But, given that video takes more time and that you have other projects to open, it might be easier (and faster) for you to have it in text.

I have to say that it takes me about as much time to make a video than to write a post. However, it would take me much more time to make a video and at the same time reproduce the whole video in text form. So I have to figure out what is the best solution.

I also thought of simultaneous English subtitle.
Even if 3Speak included the option to slow down/speed up the video content, it would probably be even easier to understand, with that subtitle.
