Hotel Santa Isabel, in Colonial Havana [en/es]

Recently, I had the pleasure of touring the emblematic Plaza de Armas, a place steeped in history and architecture. Several important structures converge in this site, such as the imposing Templete, the majestic Castillo de la Real Fuerza, the Palaces of the Second Corporal and the Captains General, among others.
However, on this occasion, I decided to dedicate this post to one building in particular, whose beauty immediately captivated me: the Hotel Santa Isabel. This magnificent hotel, which dates back to 1867 and was formerly the mansion of the Counts of Santovenia, is located at the beginning of Baratillo Street, where in front there is a sign that points out the most outstanding buildings in the area, among them, the hotel itself.

Recientemente, tuve el placer de recorrer la emblemática Plaza de Armas, un lugar impregnado de historia y arquitectura. Diversas estructuras de importancia convergen en este sitio, como el imponente Templete, el majestuoso Castillo de la Real Fuerza, los Palacios del Segundo Cabo y de los Capitanes Generales, entre otros.
Sin embargo, en esta ocasión, decidí dedicar este post a una construcción en particular, cuya belleza me cautivó de inmediato: el Hotel Santa Isabel. Este magnífico hotel, que data desde 1867 y anteriormente fue la mansión de los Condes de Santovenia, se ubica en el inicio de la calle Baratillo, donde al frente hay una tarja que señala las edificaciones más destacadas de la zona, entre ellas, el propio hotel.
The façade of the Hotel is an architectural jewel. Completely covered with quarry stone, it dazzles at first sight. A wide corridor adorned with a sequence of semicircular arches and beautiful stained glass windows on the upper floor invite you to enter its splendor.
This hotel has been meticulously restored by the Office of the Historian. Likewise, the rest of the surrounding buildings have been converted into spectacular museums or information centers, making it an ideal place to stay if you wish to immerse yourself in the historical and architectural essence of the city.
La fachada del Hotel es una joya arquitectónica. Completamente recubierta de piedra de cantera, deslumbra a primera vista. Un amplio corredor adornado con una secuencia de arcos de medio punto y hermosos vitrales en la planta alta invitan a adentrarse en su esplendor.
Este hotel ha sido meticulosamente restaurado por la Oficina del Historiador. De igual forma a ocurrido con el resto de las edificios circundantes que han sido convertidos en espectaculares museos o centros de información, lo que lo hace que el lugar sea ideal para alojarse si desea sumergirse en la esencia histórica y arquitectónica de la ciudad.
Its location just one block from the Malecón Habanero, makes it possible for the upper balconies to offer a spectacular view of the entrance to the bay, a place that every visitor wants to approach to soak up the Cuban authenticity.
Su ubicación a tan solo una cuadra del Malecón Habanero, hace posible que de los balcones superiores se ofrezca una vista espectacular de la entrada a la bahía, un lugar al que todo visitante desea acercarse para impregnarse de la autenticidad cubana.
As I approached the building, I came upon a corridor that housed a restaurant. Tables were strategically arranged so that diners could enjoy the hustle and bustle of the plaza. Although on this occasion it was not yet in operation because it was still very early in the morning, on other occasions I have witnessed its lively atmosphere.
Al acercarme al edificio, me topé con un corredor que albergaba un restaurante. Las mesas estaban dispuestas estratégicamente para que los comensales pudieran disfrutar del bullicio de la plaza. Aunque en esta ocasión aún no estaba en funcionamiento pues era muy temprano aun, en otras ocasiones he sido testigo de su animado ambiente.
Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, I was surprised to find it almost deserted; however, a kind young woman approached me to explain that at this time of year the influx of customers is lower. She allowed me to take pictures and assured me that next month occupancy would increase, and they are almost full to capacity.
Al llegar a la entrada del hotel, me sorprendió encontrarlo casi desierto; sin embargo, una amable joven se me acercó para explicarme que en esta época del año la afluencia de clientes es menor. Me permitió hacer fotos y me aseguró que el mes que viene aumentaría la ocupación, y casi no dan abasto.
The Hotel Santa Isabel is considered a luxury place and has 27 rooms, in which some original elements of its architecture have been preserved. The lobby is simply charming. With furniture that evokes the elegance of a colonial house, wooden ceilings painted in a beautiful shade of blue and delicate teardrop lamps, the atmosphere is cozy.
El Hotel Santa Isabel está considerado un lugar de lujo y cuenta con 27 habitaciones, en las que se han conservado algunos elementos originales de su arquitectura. El vestíbulo es sencillamente encantador. Con muebles que evocan la elegancia de una casa colonial, techos de madera pintados en un hermoso tono azul y delicadas lámparas de lágrimas, el ambiente es acogedor.
Its large two-paned windows reach all the way to the floor, while the walls are adorned with paintings and elegant vases, in perfect harmony with the typical colonial décor.
Sus grandes ventanales de dos hojas llegan hasta el suelo, mientras que las paredes están adornadas con cuadros y elegantes jarrones, en perfecta armonía con la típica decoración colonial.
I continued my tour to the central courtyard, also in colonial style, with Carmelite tile floor and a beautiful fountain in the center, surrounded by well-kept plants. From there I could appreciate the balconies of the two upper floors, surrounded by semicircular arches. Through them I could see the wooden ceilings and the lamps that imitated lanterns, giving the place a magical atmosphere.
Continué mi recorrido hasta el patio central, también de estilo colonial, con suelo de baldosas carmelitas y una hermosa fuente en el centro, rodeada de plantas bien cuidadas. Desde allí pude apreciar los balcones de los dos pisos superiores, rodeados de arcos de medio punto. A través de ellos podía ver los techos de madera y las lámparas que imitaban faroles, dando al lugar una atmósfera mágica.

Si, además ubicado en un lugar estratégico de la ciudad, donde tienes lo más autóctono de la Habana en la palma de la mano.
Las fotos están espectaculares 🥰!!! El hotel es un lujo tanto por la posición geográfica como por la decoración y arquitectura. Espero que la ocupación suba pronto porque realmente es un recurso turístico que merece ser disfrutado.

The photos are spectacular, the arches are my favorite part, they look so imposing and elegant, the view towards the Malecon offers a beautiful landscape worth admiring.

I like the hallway and balcony. Looks elegant. imagining enjoying afternoon tea, would I then feel like flying to the middle ages. It's a shame there are few visitors, hopefully it will be busy again soon.

I must mention that I prefer the arched entrance doors and concrete pillars of this hotel. Also, the arrangement used for the chairs and tables reserved for the guests is unique. The tables and chairs inside show an old character like artifacts. Also hanging electric lamps will look very attractive. The addition of an eco-friendly concept through the presence of several ornamental plants in the garden may attract more visitors, but unfortunately, not many people were seen in this hotel.
Likewise, although they explained to me that it fills up starting in February, January has always been a low month for them and they take the opportunity to get it ready, because afterward they don't stop. It's lovely !

You are absolutely right friend, I love the hotel, I really like its architecture but also its design and decoration, the colonial style is very well done, but in addition to all that, the best thing it has is its location in the heart of Havana , right next to the Templete where this Villa was founded by the Spanish, a place full of history and with the sea just three steps away.
