Uberti Addresses Dante - Oil Painting
I've finally finished one of the paintings in the studio, that has long been waiting for some attention.
"Uberti Addresses Dante", 80 x 100cm, oil on canvas
It was inspired by one of Gustave Dore's etchings, which I have long admired. I relished the challenge of painting the dark brooding gothic atmosphere.
You can see in the above photo how the painting began.
Originally I wanted to paint a reasonably faithful version of Dore's etching, but then some other considerations came into play.
I ended up using Blender to model the scene so I would have the figures and perspective correct. I then overlaid this on a photo of the then current state of the painting, so I would know where to place the changes.
In the above photo you can see the challenge that I was presented with painting over the original work. It can end up quite confusing. However, the first image can be used as a sort of guide or grid to help place the new image atop it.
