A journey through time | Trinidad of Cuba
Hello friends of HIVE. It has been a few days since I last posted and there is a reason. I was on vacation with my daughter, my itinerary was a bit extensive for the little time I had; this time I was visiting Trinidad de Cuba. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the beauty of this colonial city. The cobblestone streets and perfectly preserved colonial houses are simply enchanting. I felt as if I had stepped back in time to the Spanish colonial era. I realized that I was about to live a unique experience. Walking through the streets of this city, it is impossible not to realize why it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One of the first things I noticed was the Plaza Mayor, the heart of Trinidad. It is a lively place with live music, street vendors and outdoor restaurants. The people here are friendly and welcoming, and I felt right at home.
This town is, without a doubt, the best example of historic preservation I have encountered in all of Cuba. From the moment I set foot on its streets, I was struck by the feeling of being in the 16th century. The buildings of that era are truly remarkable; each building tells a story of colonial Cuba.
The museums here are a marvel, the Museo Romantico and the Museo de Historia stand out with their collection of priceless treasures. Walking through these is like stepping back in time. The objects and works of art transport you to a world that is fascinating to explore. The Carrara marble sculptures you can find here are simply unique. The quality and attention to detail in these works of art are mind-blowing.
And I can't fail to mention the private businesses I've been lucky enough to discover here. Having lunch in a restaurant where the cutlery is more than two centuries old is an experience that not everyone can afford, as the prices are not at all pleasant.
Trinidad's artisans also deserve special recognition. Their works, created 100% by hand, are true works of art. From small jewelry to decorative items, each piece tells a story and showcases the skill and dedication of these local artists.
The sights Trinidad has to offer are unimaginable until you experience them for yourself. From the bell tower of the old Convent of San Francisco de Asis, I enjoyed a panoramic view that took my breath away. The colonial houses, terracotta roofs and mountains in the distance come together to create a truly unforgettable landscape.
And, of course, I can't fail to mention the staircase; the anteroom to music and dance in Trinidad. La Casa de la Música is a place where fun and Cuban music come together in a spectacular way on its staircase. Dancing to the rhythm of live music is a unique and exciting experience.
Although I was not able to stay until the evening, I can imagine how lively and full of life Trinidad must be during the night hours. The city transforms into an entertainment coliseum, with live music on every corner, restaurants and the opportunity to enjoy the local culture in a unique way.
My visit to Trinidad de Cuba was an immersion in Cuban history, culture and joy. It was an experience I will never forget and one that I definitely want to repeat in the future and get to know even more of this city.
