Sketchbook Journal 118 - Hands ✋️
Hello there 👋
When it comes to figure drawing, I think drawing hands is the most challenging aspect, for me though. This is true for many reasons expecially with the complex anatomy, hands have many joints and bones and capturing that can be difficult.
Also getting the right proportions for the palm, thumbs and other individual fingers can be tricky, one mistake can make everything look weird.
The position and angle of the hands, capturing the right pose, perspective and expression accurately can be a huge problem too...
The easiest way is to use different shapes to signify certain parts of the hand. We all know the thumb is shorter and thicker, I use square to represent the palm and three oval shapes for joints which creates two knuckles. I also keep the length of each finger in mind.
Practicing constantly helps, I'm still not there yet but studying and using references help a lot. I'll definitely get better with time...
