Digital Art - Locs Study

Dread locs are one of my favourite hairstyles, it can be done and styled in different ways irrespective of the length. My study for today is on long locs, I can say I conquered one of my fears by doing this...

After I finished the sketch which is always the first thing, I went ahead to paint the flat colours on her skin, cloth, and hair before painting her facial features. My main focus was on her hair, Instead of drawing strands, dreads are basically blocks of hair so I painted that with different colours.

I also added some individual locs falling down her face. I left some space between some locs to show how they connect to the scalp. I did more shading with lighter and darker colours to give the locs more depth. I then added little strands of hair by the corners for a more realistic look
