Machete y garabato

En la imagen se observa una mano sosteniendo un machete y un garabato. Esta escena me transporta a mi infancia, cuando tenía unos 12 años. Mi padre, quien ya estaba divorciado de mi madre, nos llevaba a mí y a todos mis hermanos a su hacienda en la vía para ir a Upata. Éramos 15 hermanos varones, todos medios hermanos porque éramos de madres diferentes. A pesar de nuestras diferencias, esos momentos nos unían de una manera especial.

Papá nos ponía a trabajar cortando monte y preparando la tierra para sembrar. Recuerdo claramente el sonido del machete al cortar la maleza y el garabato que usábamos para recogerla. Era un trabajo arduo, pero nos enseñó el valor del esfuerzo y la importancia de la tierra.

Cada mañana, nos levantábamos temprano, antes de que el sol saliera, y nos dirigíamos al campo. Papá nos daba instrucciones claras y nos dividía en grupos para cubrir más terreno. A pesar de la dureza del trabajo, siempre había un momento para reír y compartir historias entre nosotros.

Esos días en la hacienda fueron formativos. Aprendimos a trabajar en equipo, a respetar la naturaleza y a valorar el esfuerzo de nuestro padre. Aunque éramos de diferentes madres, en esos momentos éramos una sola familia, unida por el trabajo y el amor a la tierra.

Al ver a un amigo que conozco con esas herramientas sostener ese machete y garabato, de inmediato tome la foto para el concurso, y definitivamente no puedo evitar recordar aquellos días con nostalgia y gratitud. Fueron tiempos difíciles, pero llenos de enseñanzas y momentos que nos marcaron para siempre.

Machete and Garabato

My father, who was already divorced from my mother, would take me and all my brothers to his farm on the way to Upata. We were 15 brothers, all half-brothers because we had different mothers. Despite our differences, those moments united us in a special way.

Dad would put us to work cutting grass and preparing the land for planting. I clearly remember the sound of the machete cutting through the weeds and the garabato we used to gather it. It was hard work, but it taught us the value of effort and the importance of the land.

Every morning, we would get up early, before the sun rose, and head to the field. Dad would give us clear instructions and divide us into groups to cover more ground. Despite the harshness of the work, there was always a moment to laugh and share stories among us.

Those days on the farm were formative. We learned to work as a team, to respect nature, and to value our father's effort. Although we had different mothers, in those moments, we were one family, united by work and the love of the land.

Seeing a friend I know holding that machete and garabato, I immediately took the photo for the contest, and I definitely can't help but remember those days with nostalgia and gratitude. They were tough times but filled with lessons and moments that marked us forever.
