My Life in Palette: Into the Whimsical Realm
Want to take a peek into the realm infused with the whimsical charm of children's books sprinkled with enchanting tales of fairies and magic?
Hello, beautiful soul!
I am again taking a moment to hit pause amidst this mad rush and head-spinning circus we call life with the things where I mostly find solace in doing - in the vibrant embrace of creativity and art.
It's a sublime Sunday and my colors took me to engage myself again by doing something that shattered magical stardust to fill up the boring grey-colored void of idleness.
Now let me share with you how I drew magic into the plain piece of paper.
Materials used:
- Pencil
- Pentel pen
- Oil pastel
- Highlighter color (stabilo)
By the way, I found this old box of oil pastels I bought probably 8 or 9 years ago for my sister's poster-making project when she was in her high school years. Yes, I am always the "supportive ate" when it comes to her art project. So I thought of making use of it because it's doing the lazy art (lol) since acrylics are way too exhausting at times. So when you are too lazy but still want to do some art and color the day, this oil pastel is the key.
The progress:
Step 1First, I outlined the image using a pencil, which is a mushroom house.
Step 2
Next, I traced the image using a black pentel pen.
Step 3
And then, I started coloring the image using the oil pastel.
Step 4
And then, to have a glowing effect inside the house, I colored the window with a yellow highlighter.
Step 5
Then, I badly wanted to have the firefly's glowing effect outside so I shaded the perimeter outlines of the house with the yellow highlighter again. And then, I started coloring yellow dots around the house.
Step 6
Next, I colored the yellow-green around the yellow colors.
Step 7
Lastly, to highlight the firefly's glowing effect, I colored the background with a dark green oil pastel color.
And tadaaaaa...I'm calling it done.
Remember when we were younger? When our young hearts were all enthralled by the magic of fairy tales that our Mama used to read to us bedtime stories that infused our childhood imaginations with magical wonders? Little did we know, that life is not what we thought they were in those enchanting tales of fairy tales now that we've already grown older, isn't it?
But let me tell you this, magic is still real. There is magic for those who still choose to see and believe it - that we can still spread a symphony of colors that will sprinkle magical bliss and a whimsical dash of excitement into our adult lives. You'll be surprised to know that even though the magical world does not exist in those children's books we grew up believing in, that magic is fantastically glowing within you.
There are magics everywhere.
Getting the chance to wake up every day and feeling God's grace is already magic.
It's witnessing a flower's first lovely bloom on a summer day.
It's hearing a baby's first loud cry.
It's rescuing a stray cat and seeing in his/her eyes the look of gratitude and happiness.
It's sipping in the magical warmth of a hot coffee's aroma on a cold January morning.
It's receiving good news after completely losing hope with the things you've hardly wished or prayed for.
It's seeing a dying ember of hope that burns into a warm flame of divine intervention in your most trying and desperate moments.
It's seeing a silver lining peeped up between stormy clouds.
And it's feeling good after pampering yourself with the magic of self-love and self-care.
Magic is seeing the beauty in the little things. If only we'd take a moment to pause for a while to see them sparkle in the little things that we see or do in the mundane of our everyday lives.
Let's continue to spread magic as we ride along this roller-coaster journey called life. Have a whimsical weekday ahead, everyone!
