I Paint my Birthday Blues Away - Color it with Magenta and Purple Instead

There were no dramatic surprise parties, birthday cakes with heartfelt dedications, and candles to blow as how most of the birthday celebrators joyfully spent their special day, it was just me and my grateful heart. That's how my birthday went, and for me, it was quite a privilege I should be grateful for.

Instead of birthday cake, intoxicating drinks, and dancing the night away with family or close friends, it was just my year-older self and my art materials who celebrated a party.

Yes, I celebrated it alone, and I won't lie, a bit of loneliness and emptiness cringed inside me and the birthday blues were starting to color my special day. Thankfully, the artistic drops of blood that runs through my veins were out to save the day. They did not allow me to have those blues got me locked up in my room drowning in sad emotions the whole day and paint it with happy and vibrant colors instead.

And so with this painting (which also happened to be my very first painting for this year) a happy recollection of how instead of blues, I celebrated my special day with an aesthetically created art carved out from my 38th-year-old self in which I can always happily look back a few years from now.

And so now, let me show you how celebrating my birthday alone made me do. 🥳

With my 3-piece canvas (which is handmade with love by my brother), I'll be painting my birthday blues away.

Step 1:

I covered the background with greyish color.

And added a little bit of green.

Step 2:

I started sketching the image to be painted with chalk, which is again a flower.

Step 3:

I started shading the petals with a mixture of magenta and purple. And then added some dark shadows on the areas needed. I also added some white highlights.

Step 4:

And then the same process with Step 3 to connect the 2nd and 3rd canvases.

Step 5:

Next, I added the stems and added highlights to them.

Step 6:

Added the signature and I then I call it done.

Finally, no more blues! Art has that amazing magic that paints the sadness away. So grateful it has always been with me all those days that the skies were in gloomy shades of greys - it painted my life with motivation to wake up every day with a smile. Figuratively and literally, it added colors to my life.

And so with this other birthday alone, art has given me another meaning of the word "celebration". It doesn't necessarily have to be pompous with family and friends, as long as you have that happiness that sprouts from within, I guess it's all that matters.

Here's to more birthdays that I'll be painting with pink, lavender, yellow, and all the other happy-looking colors, instead of focusing on the blues.
