How to Earn Free Splinterland Assets | Method #1

Greetings Splinterfolk!

The purpose of this series of posts is to provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to acquire Splinterland assets for free in as many different ways as possible.

To save you time, below is a checklist to make sure that you would be able to accomplish this method:

• Own a Coinbase & Coinbase Pro account
• Be eligible for the Coinbase Earn program. Click here for more details. Alternatively, below is a screenshot of the eligibility requirements.

If you do not meet the above criteria then you will be unable to take advantage of this method. Fortunately, I will be publishing more methods in the future that you could potentially utilize. Consider following my blog to stay up to date with my latest insights.

Log into your Coinbase account (Not your Coinbase Pro account) and navigate to the "Learn and Earn" page which can be found once you have clicked on the "More" option on the left side of the screen. If you are not sure where to find this, see the image below:

At the time of writing this post (24.06.2022), you can earn $4 of GRT and $3 of AMP for a total of $7. All you need to do is watch a 1 minute video and answer a question correctly at the end of it to receive $1 worth of the specific crypto. As you can see from the image below, there are 4 videos for GRT and 3 videos for Amp.

Once you have successfully watched all the videos and answered the questions correctly, you should have been rewarded with your free crypto. Unfortunately, Splinterlands doesn't accept GRT or AMP as a payment option when buying credits. This means that you would need to convert your GRT and AMP to a supported crypto payment option. At the time of writing this post, there are currently 22 crypto payment options that Splinterlands supports. Of those 22, there are only 11 that Coinbase has available, and they are:

• Ether (ETH)
• Bitcoin (BTC)
• Litecoin (LTC)
• Binance USD (BUSD)
• Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
• Basic Attention Token (BAT)
• Sandbox (SAND)
• Uniswap (UNI)
• Gala Games (GALA)
• Enjin Coin (ENJ)
• Dai Stablecoin (DAI)

You can either decide to simply sell your GRT & AMP tokens and then just buy one of the supported tokens or you can take advantage of convert feature. I chose the latter option because the only trading pair on Coinbase Pro for AMP is AMP-USD and since my account is in EUR, I cannot trade any USD pair. I also did not want to sell AMP on the regular Coinbase as the fee is too high.

To convert your GRT & AMP tokens, simply navigate to the homepage and click on the "Buy/Sell" option, which is highlighted below:

Once you have clicked on it then you should have three options: "Buy", "Sell", and "Convert". Select the "Convert" option and then select either GRT or AMP as the "From" option and select whichever crypto you would like to convert it to for the "To" option. Important to note that if you're going to eventually transfer this crypto to buy credits in Splinterlands then convert your crypto to one from the list above. Otherwise, you can convert it to any other crypto if you don't want to use it for Splinterlands.

Once you have selected which crypto you want to convert your GRT and AMP tokens to, click on the "Convert All" option. As you can see below, I chose to convert my tokens to EOS which is no longer a supported crypto payment by Splinterlands. I used to exclusively use EOS to buy credits in Splinterlands as it had little to no transfer fees. Little did I know that Splinterlands stopped accepting it so I hope this guide helps you to not make the same mistake I made.

Now that you have converted your GRT and AMP tokens to one of the supported cryptos of Splinterlands, all that is left to do is buy your credits from Splinterlands.

• Firstly, transfer your crypto (that you converted your GRT and AMP tokens to) from your Coinbase to your Coinbase Pro account. To do this, simply log into your Coinbase Pro account and navigate to the "Portfolios" option. Once there, click on the "Deposit" option and select the crypto (that you converted your GRT and AMP tokens to) you would like to deposit. Then select the "Coinbase.com" option and then specify the amount to deposit. Your tokens should now be transferred from your Coinbase account to your Coinbase Pro account instantly and for free.
• Now, log into your Splinterlands account and select how many credits you would like to buy. You should have around $7 worth of your selected crypto but you would need to take into consideration the transfer fees from Coinbase Pro to Splinterlands, depending on which of the supported cryptos you chose to use. For example, if you chose to convert your GRT and AMP tokens to Bitcoin then, at the time of writing this article, it would cost 0.00000539 BTC ($0.11) to send 0.0003 BTC ($6.50) to buy 6,500 credits ($6.50) in Splinterlands.
• Once you have bought your Splinterlands credits, you can now enjoy a small shopping spree for free. Currently, 6,500 credits could buy you 4 of the lowest cost legendary cards (Djinn Biljka, Harklaw, Zyvax Vuul, and Djinn Oshannus) and you would still have some left over credits to buy some epic cards as well.

I chose not to go into too much detail on certain steps as I believe they are self-explanatory, however, if there is anything that you are unsure about or that is confusing then please do let me know in the comments so I can try to help you further. Since I do not check my Coinbase account regularly, I am not sure when the GRT and AMP "Learn and Earn" courses were released so I cannot say for certain how many times you will be able to take advantage of this method in a year. Nevertheless, this method took around 20 minutes to complete and I believe it is well worth the time.

While Splinterlands does have a referral program in place, it only benefits the referrer and not the referee. Therefore, it is up to us (the existing players) to create our own referral program to help new players enter into the game. Here is how mine works:

• Sign up for Splinterlands through my referral link here.
• Once you buy the Summoner's Spellbook, I will receive 500 credits ($0.50) which I will use to buy DEC, cards, or both to help you start your Splinterlands journey.
• All you need to do is comment below the IGN you used to sign up with. Once I have verified it, I will reach out to see what you would like to spend your $0.50 on and then send it over.
