I dont think Hive should be focused on NFTs. Look at Splinterlands, although NFTs are an element the main focus is on the game! Hive should be about DAPPs that offer value, essentially small crypto businesses.
Eth will always win NFTs because that's where all the rich and stupid people are!

We don't get to tell people where there focus should be.
People are people and they are going to do whatever they want.
That's kind of the point we have going here,
even if it's frustrating that decentralization lacks leadership and direction.
I guess you are right, ultimately the applications that are popular in the long run will succeed. All a waiting game.
