Glitz and Glamour| Birthday portraits of Reggie Gina.

Gina probably is my most consistent client ever. This year marked the third time she'll hire my services for her birthday photo shoot. I don't even classify her as a client anymore. Because beyond hiring my services, we have so much rapport, and she even influences her customers to hire my services. She's family at this point.

She called me to consult for her birthday shoot this year. She shared samples of the looks she was inspired to recreate this year, in turn, I curated a mood board befitting the looks/outfits she shared. Everything else after that went smoothly until a few days before the shoot. She called me and said the fashion designer had messed up the style of her outfit. What that meant was that we(she) had to come up with an alternative outfit in less than three days.

After a series of back-and-forths, she settled for another outfit. She had to make a trip to get the outfit ready. She shared the new outfit choice the night before the shoot. I had to come up with an idea for the shoot in under 6 hours. I browsed through all the boards I had curated on Pinterest to see if I could find anything that matched the outfit she was wearing. Sadly I found none. But I came across a set design I have been yearning to create and shoot. It was going to match her outfit. And that's what I did.

The set/background I had to create was a fringe curtain and a disco ball. I was fortunate to find a vendor that sold readymade fringe curtains, the alternative was to create it myself. I was unable to get a disco ball, but the photos banged anyway.

I'm grateful for how the photos turned out. It was my first time working with a background like that. I had no prior knowledge of how the fringe curtain would react to light. I think I did pretty well. And Gina brought her A game to the shoot. She cooperated with my demands in terms of posing and the general creative direction for the shoot.

The shoot also enabled me to learn a new skill in photoshop. It's not like it's new knowledge, but I needed to learn it now for this shoot. I wanted to create a sort of glow in the photos. On youtube, it is called the "Hollywood glow". I learned it, applied it to some of the photos, and loved it. I'll be doing that often from now on 😁. I also learned how to create starbursts. It's crazy that I didn't learn all these until this shoot.
