The bride - Original artwork (Charcoal pencil)

Hola, nice to see you again and I hope you are always healthy.
Today I can't wait to share with you an original artwork made by me using charcoal pencils, I name it "The bride" a lady wearing a flower crown and a dress made of leaves.

I was inspired by a traditional clothes of Indonesian brides, especially the traditional clothes of Acehnese women, Acehnese brides usually wear crowns made of fresh and fragrant flowers on their wedding day, so this artwork is a combination of women and flowers (something that is beautiful combined with other beautiful things certainly produces eternal beauty, right?).

As usual, I made this drawing on my work studio "like an office in general, it's just that I prefer to call it a studio because I spend more time on the studio to imagine than my other office", I've spent about 6 hours to complete this drawing because I have to find the right composition between models, positions and other considerations like I try to be as detailed as possible because I believe every detail can make something far more valuable.

Work Steps

What I need

1. A4 size HVS paper
2. 2B graphite pencil
3. Charcoal pencils (hard, medium and soft)
4. Kneaded eraser

My drawing method
First, I made basic patterns and auxiliary lines using a graphite pencil, by making fine lines to determine shape according to the idea, why did I use a graphite pencil? because at this stage we are still in a decisive stage and very often we have to erase lines that are not important, erasing graphite pencil lines is much easier and does not damage HVS paper than erasing charcoal pencil lines.
First objects I draw are the eyes, nose, mouth and face shape.

After finishing making a basic drawing using a graphite pencil, then proceed with the process of expressing a lines using medium and hard charcoal pencils.

After tinkering with each line for a long time, next step is shading using a charcoal pencil. Before shading, we should first determine a position of s imaginary light source, so that we can determine a dark and bright areas of the object.
