The Battle Continues against a tough opponent #sgslife update

I admit, she's got stronger will than I do.

The last few days have been impossible for me to get my thoughts around a proper post drawn up.

Just before the New year, we thought we a decent pause on her Cancer following the first round of Chemotherapy and the immediate scans showed progress.

What was considered an old bothersome skin blemish found on my roommates back was removed three weeks ago turned out as cancerous. A subdural form that rarely occurs with the same type of Sarcoma she was originally diagnosed with.

We took the most available diagnostics booking for a quick follow up CT scan on Wednesday and by Friday her doctor revealed the bad news. Not only that the cyst was cancerous but also new problem sites showing a further spread of the disease than we thought.

Now we’re at the stage we’re Chemotherapy wouldn’t gain any ground on her disease leaving to Immunotherapy therapy as our next choice.

What is Immunotherapy?

A treatment that enable’s the patient’s own immune system to identify and destroy cancer cells. For my Roommate’s situation a 2-pronged approach is recommended, an Intravenous version applied every few weeks and an oral dosage of a companion medication each having a reasonable having a workable track record but relatively new in this combination together.
I could best describe as in the Experimental stage. Trials have shown a 40% success rate. Better than nothing.

There are trade offs as expected, the medical side effects take a toll on the Thyroid, Liver, and kidney. Therefore, a possibly significant reduction in the quality of life.

Tomorrow morning, our battle will resume with an immune system assessment.

We just had some of her relatives drop in for her birthday yesterday, it was great that they threw in their loving support over a nice roast beef dinner, an awesome bottle of wine and of course a chocolate cake that she really shouldn’t be having but indulged in a slice anyway.

Here’s hoping for another birthday party next year.🥂

And your prayers would be coveted.

My prayers are with her. There is no doubt that cancer is a very bad disease, to fight it and as much as it is a very courageous act and it's great to know that her family celebrated her birthday in a very good way. I pray that she will celebrate her birthday next year in a very good way at her home or a restaurant same like precious years.

It's been a challenging 2022 for us and 2023 appears to be a more difficult fight so we can't give up hope or let our guard down.
Thank you for the prayers @tornad

Her name is Deb, her faith is stronger than mine.
She is family to me.
She feels ready no matter the outcome as it is God's will to take her to her true home or intervene with a miracle.
Thanks @silvertop

Oh dear, that must be horrible to witness from this close. Your roommate seems to be lucky to have you by her side. I often get lost in words reading these posts, so I will just wish her good progress and hopefully she's in the 40% with the successful therapy. Take care dear, not only of your friend, but yourself too <3

I've witnessed this plenty in my career, shielded by rules and taking it in a Clinical context.
It's been a tough year since her diagnosis December 2021. Working my regular Nursing job at nights coming home to provide her needed care, taking over some of her chores, leaving me little time for Hive and sleep. I may just have to take a LOA from my job to care for her.
Thank you @thisismylife

It sucks. We can only do the best with what cards we get dealt with and hope for that Ace in the hole.
Thanks for the ❤️ @dfinney

Your roommate, Deb, is always in my prayers in name, sis!
And for you too... we are grateful that she has you, @kerrislravenhill .

Her care is taking more of my time away from Hive so I may be inactive at times or have to take short cuts by just upvoting. It boils down to priorities Sis.
Thanks for your understanding @silversaver888.

Cancer is a very dangerous disease. We pray for a miracle and that he recovers from this disease because it hurts a person a lot and when a person finds out that he has cancer, a person is completely destroyed from the inside. It is good that you have celebrated a birthday, it changes a person's mind a bit. We pray that Allah gives them health and that they celebrate their birthdays next year as well.
