Review Of My Favourite Julia Roberts' Films

Julia Roberts is one of my favourite Hollywood actresses mostly because she is a great actress, beautiful and has a charming smile. I was first introduced to this amazing and iconic actress in the film Runaway Bride (1999). The title of the film drew my attention because I was searching for a Richard Gere movie to watch at the time only to stumble upon this one.

My thought at the time was why would a bride run away from her wedding(s)? You'll have to watch this flick to know why. Julia Roberts' acting was great with some witty scenes. I enjoyed her chemistry with Richard Gere like they were a true couple.

The funny thing is Runaway Bride, I got my hands on Pretty Woman (1990) and discovered it was released earlier. I was already in love with Julia and Richard so watching them together in this classic sealed their love in my heart forever! 😂

Pretty Woman is a story of a prostitute hired by a wealthy businessman to spend a week with him. By the end of this arrangement, the lady had fallen in love with handsome Richard Gere! Good thing, this only happens in movies.

The rom-com was well-written and the cast performance was great. It had the makings of a fantasy —a poor girl meeting and falling in love with her charming prince. This film became the scale on which I judged other rom-coms. It is on my list of favourites and I don't get tired of revisiting it again and again, if only to see her charming smile!

I went ahead to watch other Julia Roberts movies and must say I enjoyed her performance as a law student in the adaptation of John Grisham’s novel, The Pelican Brief (1993). She starred alongside Denzel Washington, another of my Hollywood favourites in this film and it was intriguing. I'd somehow hoped a romance would happen between the two of them so I could see whether they'd look good together like Julia did with Richard Gere. 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 Oh well, a person can only wish!

I've watched a few other films of Julia's like the popular Erin Brockovich (2001) where she starred as a single mother opposite Albert Finney and Aaron Eckhart to bring down a big corporation responsible for polluting the city's water. It's an interesting watch and she received an Oscar for her performance in it.

Most of Julia's films are rom-com and a few thrillers, dramas and biographies. I believe her performance in Pretty Woman made her one of the most famous celebrities in Hollywood and a magnet for romance movies such as Notting Hill, My Best Friend's Wedding, Duplicity and others.

Julia Roberts turned 55 recently on October 28 and it seemed fitting to look at how far she has come in the film industry. Her recent rom-com, Ticket To Paradise is almost a flop but watch-worthy because she and George Clooney salvaged it with their charisma and energetic performance. The film revealed that their acting talents are still excellent and have not diminished over the years.

Julia Roberts has become one of the defining actors of her generation and still has many good years and great films ahead of her in the industry.

Happy birthday, Julia.
