Thanksgiving Visit at Archbishop Teofilo Camomot Shrine and Simala Shrine
Happy Friday Hivers and Liketu Commumity!
Our elders taught us that when we want something, we should work hard to achieve it and pray. They even encouraged us to visit miraculous churches or monasteries and write down our petitions. We believe that through deep prayer, God will grant our wishes and desires, especially when we visit miraculous places like churches or monasteries.
They also incorporated into their teachings that when God grants our wishes, we should return to that place and give thanks. Do you also hold this belief in your area?
Two of the most miraculous churches I have ever known are located in the southern part of Cebu: the Archbishop Teofilo Camomot Shrine and Simala Shrine. These two places have countless stories about miracles that devotees have received. This is why many devotees gather there, despite the large crowds and scorching weather. Even those who have suffered serious illnesses join the crowds due to their strong faith that God will heal them. It is undoubtedly an admirable act.
Our visit to both churches on that day was to give thanks for my niece's approved visa. Usually, when I come to Simala alone, I visit during weekdays to avoid the large crowds at the monastery. Only a few devotees come to pay a visit. However, that day was different.
I was with my family, and my brother and sister-in-law's only free time is on weekends, so I had no choice. But it was alright, as I had companions. If I were alone and my visit were on a Sunday, I wouldn't be confident about walking with the large crowds. I would quickly get a headache, followed by dizziness. However, since I was with them, it was manageable, even though I wasn't entirely comfortable in the crowd.
Upon our arrival, we immediately lit candles and expressed our gratitude to God. After offering our prayers, we also wanted to go inside the Archbishop Teofilo Camomot's Shrine. However, it wasn't open yet, and as we had other matters to attend to, we left the place early.
Being grateful was also a lesson passed down by our ancestors. No matter how busy we are with our lives, we should always make time to return and give thanks to the Almighty God for the blessings He has showered upon us.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
