Cleaning My Freezer
It’s been a while since I cleaned out my freezer and I know it is time to get to it.
I have only been freezing food for the past couple of years and have been loving it. As I do not cook meat regularly, my freezer doesn't have any meat.
This is what my freezer looks like right now. A mess. As much as I do not want to keep using freezer bags, and opt for boxes and bottles, freezer bags are convenient for me and allows for more space to freeze more.
I know. I know. It doesn't feel like a whole lot, and I think I can get this cleaned out in 10 minutes. The first thing I do is take everything out of the freezer. I look for anything that might have freezer burns. I give the shelves a good wipe and then its time to put it all back quickly in the freezer.
I freeze butter, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and have had no issues whatsoever.
No major freezer burns so far. Only the leeks looks like I need to use them up this week. Expirations on the produce is still fine.
This is why I need to clean out my freezer more regularly. 2 opened packets of parathas that are the same.
I should make some soup with the tomatoes.
I write down the contents and dates on the prepped produce. Once I prep my produce, here it is beetroot and green onion, and carrots and beans for fried rice, I like to wrap them in cling film / foil and then put them in a ziplock bag. That way, I notice they rarely get a freezer burn.
I'm quite happy with what it looks like now. Parathas, lentils in the bottom shelf and the veggies that I should probably use up in the next couple of days, only because they are so little in quantity. and the top shelf has all the veggies and berries. The side shelves has puff pastry and some spices, garlic paste and such.
Yes, I do store the peels of the lemons in a bag, someday I would like to DIY some bio enzymes made out of lemon peels.
