[ESP/ENG] ¿Realmente es lo justo o es demasiado?/Is it really just right or is it too much?
Major League Baseball is a sport that has more than a century giving its fans the best entertainment, no doubt everything over the years has given progress and that translates into evolution, from its beginnings to the present, the changes that have been generated in Major League Baseball are significant, From the uniforms, sports equipment, the way of directing the teams and the hiring of players, those years where a great figure barely earned 25 thousand dollars were left behind, which was a fortune, in the last decade it is impressive the sums that are offered to the players.
Chroniclers specialized in this discipline say that in the 60's, 70's and 80's, the salaries earned by players as minimum salary per year, barely reached 20 dollars, only stars, such as Luis Aparicio, hall of fame and born in Venezuela, had a salary of about 100 thousand dollars per season, for that reason the great figures of the baseball world, decided to go to play in the Caribbean, especially in Venezuela, where the oil bonanza reigns and the dollar was a currency with a value already known of 4. 30 Bolivars for that currency.
Those players could earn 7,000 or 8,000 dollars per month, and if they played the whole season in Venezuela they could earn up to 25,000 dollars, that is, they earned more in three months in the Caribbean leagues than in the big leagues, but all that was disappearing little by little, and today a minimum salary contract is almost 800 thousand dollars, hence the absence of great prospects in the winter leagues and especially in Venezuela, not to mention the future, there is already talk of base salaries of more than one million that makes our leagues are unattractive to players in the MLB system.
The big contracts in this era are for more than 300 million, what they call multi-year contracts, where players agree for a certain number of years, a close example is that of Fernando Tatis Jr. who signed for 340 million dollars and 14 years, by the way this player has been news in recent days and his contract has come to the fore, this series of pacts have been happening for some time, I even remember when Miguel was given those 300 million for more than a decade as a member of the Detroit Tigers.
After the contract of the Venezuelan, the biggest contract so far is Mike Trout's 430 million, if we talk about millions per year, who leads the way is the right-handed pitcher and next hall of famer, Max Scherzer, who signed with the New York Mets, for 3 years and 130 million, which gives him an average of 43. 3 million per season, no other player earns more than him, there are several on the list that earn 30 million or more per year, but no one comes close to this pitcher, it is expected that in the next signings come millionaire surprises.
Just as there are players who received large contracts, there are others who surely went ahead and preferred to secure their future, there are two cases and both are Venezuelans, Jose Altuve who signed a long contract for less than 100 million with the Astros, but so much was the performance of Jose, that the same set, reconsidered the matter and adjusted the figures, almost similar happens with Roland Acuña Jr, for almost ten years and 124 million, many have said that Acuna rushed to sign that contract, since both Soto, Tatis Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are of the same generation, and one of them already has 340 million insured, surely Acuna would be in that range, but the reality is different.
A little more than three weeks ago the Dominican-born player, Juan Soto, was in the news for categorically rejecting an offer from his former team, the Washington Nationals, for 450 million dollars and 14 years, just as you read, he said no, the team before losing him, since he will be a free agent next year, made the decision to trade him to the San Diego Padres, 5 players arrived for him which ensures a good future for the Nationals, while the Padres should try to secure Soto's services for many years. Because if not, it wouldn't be worth the sacrifice they made.
But many are saying or asking the question, if Soto is worth over $450 million, how much will Otani cost, Some say that if Soto signs for 500 million, surely the Japanese will do it for a higher figure than the Dominican, many believe that the contribution that Otani gives is superior to that of Juan, and if we take it to the numbers it is certainly so, the Asian can help on the mound and win more than 10 games, and with the bat where he can give more than 40 home runs and drive about 100 runs, are those players that are rarely seen today in baseball.
It can be said then that the Anaheim team will be the owner of two multimillion dollar contracts, since we are more than sure that Otani will be the highest paid player for the next season in the big leagues, if this continues in the not too distant future we will see contracts break the barrier of one billion, that would be contracts for more than 15 years, thus ensuring a player for the rest of his career, but if they pay them is because they have them and know that the player can get much more than what was invested.
