[GER/ENG] Braunschweig und das Happy Rizzi House

Kennt Ihr das Happy Rizzi House?

Wir kannten es nicht, bis zu unserem Kurztrip nach Braunschweig im letzten Jahr. Aber dazu später ;)

Do you know the Happy Rizzi House?
I didn't know it until our short trip to Braunschweig last year. But about that later ;)

Wir unternehmen gerne Kurztrips mit unserem Sohn, um ihm neue Orte zu zeigen und neue Erfahrungen machen zu lassen und auch, weil es einfach Spaß macht ;) Von Anfang an war er immer begeistert mit dabei und hat alle neuen Eindrücke förmlich aufgesogen.
Braunschweig hatten wir eigentlich nie so richtig auf dem Radar, aber da es nicht weit von uns entfernt ist, sind wir dann einfach mal spontan für 1 Nacht dorthin gefahren.
Und ich muss sagen, wir waren positiv überrascht.
Wir hatten zum 1. Mal in einem Premier Inn Hotel übernachtet, was uns wirklich super gefallen hat. Das Familienzimmer war total modern eingerichtet und einfach riesig. Und der Preis von 49,- € die Nacht war für uns als kleine Familie absolut unschlagbar.
In einem Hotel zu übernachten ist für sich gesehen jedes Mal schon ein kleines Abenteuer für unseren kleinen Weltentdecker.
Das erste, was er tut, wenn wir das Hotelzimmer betreten, ist auf dem Bett zu hüpfen. Das hebt direkt die Stimmung ;)

We like to take short trips with our son to show him new places and let him have new experiences and also because it's just fun ;). Right from the start, he was always enthusiastic and literally soaked up all the new impressions.
Braunschweig had never really been on our radar, but since it is not far away from us, we just spontaneously went there for 1 night.
And I must say, we were positively surprised.
We had stayed for the 1st time in a Premier Inn hotel, which we really liked. The family room was really modern and huge. And the price of 49,- € the night was absolutely unbeatable for us as a small family. Staying overnight in a hotel is every time an adventure for our little world explorer. The first thing he does, when we enter the room, is to jump on the bed ;) This directly lifts the mood ;)

Als wir aus dem Hotel gingen, um die Stadt zu erkunden, fanden wir uns nach ein paar Metern direkt auf dem Burgplatz mit dem Braunschweiger Löwen wieder. Besser konnte die Lage des Hotels kaum sein. Gerade mit Kind ist es praktisch, wenn man gleich im Geschehen ist und von dort aus direkt zu Fuß die Umgebung erkunden kann.
Im 12. Jahrhundert errichtete Herzog Heinrich der Löwe rund um den Burgplatz die Burg Dankwarderode, den Dom St. Blasii und den Burglöwen.

When we left the hotel to explore the city, we found ourselves after a few meters directly on the castle place with the Braunschweig Lion. The location of the hotel could hardly be better. Especially with a child, it's convenient to be right in the action and be able to explore the surrounding area directly on foot from there.
In the 12th century, Duke Henry the Lion built Dankwarderode Castle, St. Blasii Cathedral and the Castle Lion around the Burgplatz.

Der Dom St. Blasii ist wirklich sehenswert. Beeindruckt waren wir von dem riesigen Kerzenleuchter, der vor dem Altarraum thronte.

The St. Blasii Cathedral is really worth seeing. We were impressed by the huge candlestick enthroned in front of the chancel.

Das Schöne an Braunschweig ist, dass es wirklich viel zu sehen gibt, man es jedoch alles zu Fuß erkunden kann.
Nur ein paar Schritte vom Burgplatz entfernt befindet sich das Rathaus von Braunschweig. An diesem Tag war der Christopher Street Day, daher war die gesamte Innenstadt von bunten und feierlustigen Menschen belebt.

The nice thing about Braunschweig is that there is really a lot to see, but you can explore it all on foot.
Just a few steps away from Castle Place is the city hall of Braunschweig. That day was Christopher Street Day, so the whole city center was filled by colorful and party-loving people.

Wenn man es nicht wüsste, würde man doch nicht erwarten, hinter folgender Fassade ein Einkaufszentrum zu entdecken, oder?
So ein Entree könnte doch so manche Bausünde stilvoll verdecken ;) Wir finden es auf jeden Fall sehr gelungen!

If you didn't know, you wouldn't expect to discover a shopping center behind the following facade, would you?
An entrance like this could stylishly cover up many a building sin ;) In any case, we find it very successful!

Hinter dem Einkaufszentrum abgebogen erreichten wir auch recht bald das Happy Rizzi Haus. Mir war es tatsächlich vorher nicht bekannt, umso überraschter waren wir bei dessen Entdeckung. Kontrastreicher könnte ein Stadtbild kaum sein.
Der New Yorker Künstler James Rizzi hat dieses Gebäude mit seinem Projektteam im Pop Art Stil entwickelt.
Da es bewohnt wird, ist es nicht von innen zu besichtigen. Aber ich denke, dass das Äußere in diesem Falle ausschlaggebend ist.
Weil ich aber doch neugierig bin, habe ich etwas recherchiert und eine Panoramaansicht im Internet gefunden, die ich Euch HIER verlinke.
Und es ist von innen tatsächlich genauso bunt und phantasievoll wie von außen.

Turning behind the shopping center, we soon reached the Happy Rizzi House. We have never heared of this building before, so the more surprised we were, when we discovered it. A cityscape could hardly be more contrasting.
The New York artist James Rizzi developed this building with his project team in Pop Art style.
Since it is inhabited, it cannot be visited from the inside. But I think that the exterior is decisive in this case.
But because I am curious, I did some research and found a panoramic view on the internet, which I link you HERE.
And it is indeed as colorful and imaginative from the inside as it is from the outside.

Der nächste Kontrast eröffnete sich uns, als wir am Happy Rizzi House vorbei in das geschichtsträchtige Magniviertel kamen.
Hier befindet sich die Magnikirche umgeben von wunderschönen denkmalgeschützen Fachwerkhäusern.
In diesen befinden sich viele kleine urige Cafes und Restaurants und laden zum Verweilen ein. Eine tolle einladende und auch gemütlich anmutende Kulisse. Ein schönes Ausgehviertel in dem man bestimmt auch mal gut versacken kann ;)

The next contrast opened up to us when we passed the Happy Rizzi House and entered the Magni district, which is steeped in history.
Here is the Magnikirche surrounded by beautiful listed half-timbered houses.
In these are many small quaint cafes and restaurants and invite you to linger. A great inviting and also cozy scenery where you surely could sink into the nightlife.

Braunschweig hat sich uns als weltoffene, bunte, historisch und zugleich moderne kontrastreiche Stadt gezeigt, die wir sicherlich wieder einmal besuchen werden.

Braunschweig has shown us as a cosmopolitan, colorful, historical and at the same time modern city full of contrasts, which we will certainly visit again.
