Weekend-Engagement writing topics. WEEK 173
Hi everyone!
My writing topic of this weekend is:
Show and explain one of your memorable weekends. Remember, your own photos are required.
A couple of weeks ago I experienced a wonderful weekend, after a lot of work and obstacles that seemed insurmountable, I was able to complete the photographic exhibition of my students from the Documentary Photography workshop that I teach on Margarita Island.
I have been living on Margarita Island for some years, we all know that the economy has changed and many times we find ourselves overcoming the difficulties of living on a small island in the Venezuelan Caribbean, adding that my profession is directly related to Audiovisual Arts, a field not in high demand at this latitude.
After encountering an uncertain job outlook, I began teaching at the university. One thing led to another and soon I started giving photography workshops, an activity I did in my hometown of Caracas. My students are varied, many university students and in general people interested in art and related things.
The Documentary Photography workshop began with a basic workshop, where we started with history, techniques and audiovisual language. Then, on level two we entered deeper waters and began a process of research on the capital of Margarita Island, the beautiful city of La Asunción. We explore its corners, discover incredible stories from the hand of historians and chroniclers. The result was extraordinary, I was able to witness the growth of each of the workshop participants, who at the end I was able to proudly call "photographers."
We had the support of the Omar Carreño Arts Center, a cultural center also located in La Asunción, it was definitely the perfect place to exhibit the works. This was not our first choice, and in a city where emerging artists are not given many opportunities, we had a difficult few days to finalize the space, but we finally got it and everything turned out as we dreamed.
The experience for me, as a photographer and teacher, was enriching and very satisfying. I was able to see the joy and pride that my dear students felt; the support of their family and friends was essential to have an inauguration as they deserved. In a few weeks I start the initial workshop again, with new students, I am already excited to live this experience again.
