HiveGarden: My Indoor Garden #5, the rest of the gang
This edition of my Hive Garden features the rest of my indoor plants starting with my 2nd oldest one, the Hibiscus. I paid $10 for it in Toronto in 1981!
The hibiscus shares its window with a geranium that came into my family in the 1970s but not the original plant. I usually have 4 of its offspring and they spend the summer outside. Here, you can see its colour.
And here they are, 4 geraniums and the hibiscus all crowded together.
Another that spends the summer outdoors is the amaryllis. When I went to Australia in 2020, I forgot about it and it spent over a year dormant in its pot on a shelf in my storage room. Now I'm trying to build up the bulb again and I can't remember what colour it is...
It's either this one that gave me a spectacular 7 flowers...
Or this beautiful variegated pink.
Before I left for Australia, I pared back on plants. I was hoping my tenant would look after them and... let's just say I had a few "science experiments" in the group that weren't very attractive house plants. It forced me to clean up. Anyway, that freed up a spot for my fuchsia basket in a cool room. To my surprise, it's doing okay!
My front porch is the perfect spot for it in summer. Maybe this one will make it through the winter.
I also have a Christmas cactus.
I love the colour!
This is an example of what I couldn't leave for my tenant! It's an old photo from back when I was still building a shelf to accommodate the geraniums (on the floor against the wall) and there is a sweet potato plant, dragon fruit, Christmas cactus, and amaryllis on the table. The weeping fig is in the foreground. It's a jungle in there.
This is the weeping fig from last summer, drying off after I put it outside for a shower. I think it came into my life 25 years ago...
On the wall in the kitchen nook, there is a hoya at the top.
Its beautiful waxy flowers almost don't look real.
At the bottom is a philodendron that needs a haircut.
That's better. It occurred to me while writing this post that these 2 plants are almost 30 years old. Time flies.
On the baker's rack in my kitchen is my newest plant, an ivy, that hasn't yet wrapped itself all around the rack -- give it time. lol
Thanks for visiting. I should be starting seeds and back to outdoor gardening over the next few months.
