Happy Caturday: orange cats in the garden.

Sometimes I had to work around the back of the garden where there were more tall trees and bushy plants. My orange cats used to play and run around this area a lot when they were young kittens. They could probably sense that there were some snakes using the back garden as a short cut by a few local snakes. I saw two big snakes hopping or running through the garden in the past. Whenever I had to water plants in this area, I would make loud noises to frighten any snakes to hurry up on their ways.

These cats love to climb the big trees and played hide-and-seek when their whole family was still around. Nowadays they hardly went to hunt or sniff the plants for intruders’ scents. But they would gladly follow me around whenever I had to trim some branches. These cats would just sit a few meters away acting like body guards; perhaps they wanted to make sure that no naughty snakes made their appearance.

I was rather relieved that I didn’t see any snake as I would have a hard time trying to control my inquisitive cats from bothering the snake. My gardener came face to face with an adult cobra once. Luckily the snake understood my gardener’s message of peaceful non-interference and went away.

I felt as if my cats always watched over me whenever I worked in the garden. They liked stay close by and moved along when I had to work on other corners of the garden. In the evening when I had my walking meditation session in the drive way, orange cats would be sitting by the gate to make sure no invited guests could enter without some examination. These cats seemed to be protective towards me and they always watched my back whenever I was not being watchful.

Sometimes my cats would surprise me by sitting under my chair just to be closer to me. They are loving cats by they were a bit shy in expressing their emotions. They looked awkward and uneasy whenever they wanted to express their feelings. They still waited for me to open the door to let them into the garden without meowing to me. I did allow them to disturb me with their meowing whenever they wanted me to open the door for them. But they were still too considerate to disturb me during my sleep or my reading.

I could go on and on about my cats behaviour and reactions as I have been learning more and more about their characters, personalities and behaviours. These cats made me understand other animals and respect them as fellow sentient beings on earth. These animals do have feelings, memories and capability for uncomplicated logical thinking. I hope that I would be able to persuade my orange cats to go in a serious diet and to lose some weight.
