Soulstone Survivors has released into early access!

Soulstone Survivors was another game that I found during Steam Next Fest that I absolutely loved.

It portrayed itself as a rogue-lite autobattler/bullet-hell very similar to Vampire Survivors. It was bright and colourful with cool abilities, weapons to craft, a skill-tree to spec into, and cool character customisation in the form of runes. It was an absolute winner and I threw it onto my wishlist and awaited its release. 😄

It released last night in early access, and once again, just like with Against The Storm, I don't even care. I'm going to play the hell out of this early access title.

The developers have had a free version called Soulstone Survivors: The Prologue out for a while now and all progress attained in that has moved over to the early access release, which is fantastic.

The moment I opened this early access version, I got smothered in achievements thanks to the time I spent in the Prologue!

Now that I was no longer playing a glorified demo, I investigated all the things I wasn't able to see before. 😃

First of all, I could unlock extra characters now. I very quickly bought The Elementalist. His lightning abilities sound cool.

Other characters are unlocked via completing certain achievements and apparently there are still more characters to come as they progress through the early access phase.

The Rune system wasn't in the demo/prologue so it was interesting having a look at all the things I could choose from. There were only two I had unlocked so far and all the others are unlocked by completing certain achievements. Looking forward to grinding away all these things! 😁

So far it looks as though the runes allow you to roll certain abilities on characters that may otherwise not be able to get those abilities due to their class, and there's also a cool one which requires a lot of Rune Power which I don't have yet... "Skills can be picked multiple times."

That would be amazing. You can have 6 skills. So far a skill called Call Lightning has been my favourite beast of a skill that does immense damage. I'm just sitting here imagining 6 Call Lightnings going off all at once, haha!! It would be amazing.

This game released at 10pm my time which is generally my bed-time because I'm old and have no interest in late nights when I could be enjoying my sleep. But I decided to have one game before crashing for the night.

Using my new Elementalist character, I decided to go a pure lightning build!

Once you complete the maps, you're able to participate in 'cursed' versions of the map which give the map modifiers to make it harder. The very last Cursed Map has 41 modifiers!!!! That's immense.

Starting my game, I decided not to use any modifiers. Not yet, anyway. xD Just wanted a nice smooth run before sleep.

4 minutes into the game I had mostly lightning spells and two other skills that would be replaced.

The game is so very, very easy. You just run around and stay safe while your spells auto-activate and murder all the things. Just like in Vampire Survivors.

Watch out for giant red areas of bad on the ground!

The goal of the game is to kill enough little mobs to summon a great boss of doom! When you kill the great boss of doom, you can take its soulstone and use it for your own needs: crafting, buying new characters, and levelling your skill tree.

When you kill 5 bosses, you have the choice to return to your base with your spoils... or... jump through the red gate! Go even deeper with your build! Keep going forever and ever if you wish and if your computer can handle it. xD

I decided to go deeper. 😈 Yes, I'm sure there's a "that's what she said" joke there.

But as I said before, it was past my bedtime and I wanted to go enjoy my sleep. So after I beat the first round of endless, I waltzed through the blue door and ended my match. I'm sure as hell going to try again though and see how far I can go through endless before my new computer is reduced to stuttering 1-2fps due to the bazillion effects on screen.

This game is fantastic.

If you're a fan of Vampire Survivors — and honestly, who isn't a fan of Vampire Survivors???? — you'll absolutely love this game.
