Dinkum ~ leaving a grey and lifeless city and entering a colourful new world!
Dinkum is an early access "Animal Crossing"-esque life sim that I've written about before HERE and HERE. It may be in early access but it actually feels like a polished game and from what little I've experienced of it I am really enamoured with it.
Today I felt the urge to embark upon a small adventure into this world and share my story with you. 😊
So I created a brand new Kaelci to set foot into a brand new Astana.
Let's go! 😄
Within the cold and colourless city of a grey and lifeless world, a young girl named Kaelci dreamt of warmth and colour. Her peers had no interest in such things and thought she was bizarre — mad, even — and so Kaelci went through life alone, going through the motions yet thriving in her dreams.
Until one day she saw the most peculiar message attached to the local bulletin board. The message was from a little old lady who sought a companion to accompany her to her old home: Astana. Kaelci had only heard of this place once before, in a history book... a land where people had once lived before ruin came down and sent them all packing to the dull, grey city.
It was very intriguing. She applied for the position of 'companion' immediately.
On the first day of Summer she arrived at the Airship terminal. There was no one else there but the little old lady who had written the advertisement. Of course no one else in this dull, boring city had the inclination or desire to leave, but Kaelci sure did.
Introductions were made and together, Kaelci and Fletch the old lady, hopped onto the airship and departed for Astana.
After hours of travel, a strange orange light manifested and coloured the interior of the airship. Curious, Kaelci peered out the window and saw a vibrant land so different to the one she had known. Her heart performed a little flip. This was the colourful land of her dreams!
At last the airship landed and deposited Fletch and Kaelci upon the red dirt. It was glorious. Truly glorious.
Eyes wide with wonder, Kaelci looked around her surroundings and inwardly rejoiced. She had made the right choice leaving that dull and colourless city behind. Just look at this place! It was beautiful.
Fletch smiled at Kaelci and told her to find a good spot to make camp. After thoroughly investigating the map, Kaelci decided that a perfectly circular island enwrapped by a creek would be a perfect location and hurried towards it, picking up every fruit, flower, seashell and fallen log on her way.
She had never before touched such things — seen such things! — she would collect them all.
Kaelci soon found her way to the circular island and explored it, making sure it was safe for habitation. On her journey she had seen lightning-quick lizards, creepy cassowaries, a million magpies, dozens of dingoes, and had even witnessed a crocodile eating two of the dingoes!
She had to make sure there were no crocodilian threats lurking in the waters surrounding the island. Luckily, there were none. The island would be their haven. She placed both the base camp tent and one that Fletch had given her to call her own. Home. She was home.
Fletch wobbled into her new base camp and smiled at the young Kaelci. Rustling through her trusty backpack, she gave Kaelci a net for catching bugs.
Filled with a child-like glee she had never had the chance to experience growing up in the cold grey city, Kaelci ran around the camp-site and found some butterflies with her new trusty net. This was the best day of her life!
Soon she was too tired to do much more and Fletch advised her to sleep. This was their new home now and there would be plenty of time to explore and enjoy this new land.
Kaelci couldn't wait to see what the morning would bring!
Until next time! 😊
This game looks really lovely i love how it have diferents types of climate!!
i'm looking forward to see more about this game
It's not really different climates, but different biomes! 🙂 We have the typical red dirt desert that most people think of when thinking of Australia, then the tropical areas, the beaches, little forest areas, plus of course a lot of the wildlife that lives in those areas! 😄
I love the look and I love animal crossing
This game is seriously pretty cute, I'm a fan of this genre, although I've only played animal crossing hahaha, I think Harvest Moon counts too.
It's nice to see how you tell this story hahaha, it seems something deeper, as if you were trying to tell us a little about your reality in a performance that you did through a game, it gives it a good narrative, great post!
Haha, nah, nothing "deep" going on here. 🙂 Kaelci is just the name I give all my characters in games — well,. it's either Kaelci or Ellu'kha — and then it's used when I write a short piece of game-roleplay-fiction.
It's a really good little game! I never played Animal Crossing, but most reviews describe this as a cross between Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. 😊 I personally love that it's set in an Australiana environment!
se ve el juego con alggo de ternura muy llamativo la verdad
I knew this game from @perceval. He made a great post for it too. I'm looking forward for kaelci's adventure in Astana. We will see what she is going to do after she wake up. I'm sure she can be a good fisherwoman 😂😂
Haha! Fishiiiiing. I tried the fishing last time I played and it took me ages to get the hang of it, hopefully it comes easier this time. XD
Who knows? You can only learn by trying. We will see in the next episode maybe 🤣
If early access looks this perfect, I wonder how the complete version would be.
It looks like an interesting game and I liked the screenshots.
This early access is really fantastic and is, in my opinion, what all early access games should be like — instead of just a half-baked product like most other early access games, this is a mostly finished game seeking play-testing and community feedback. 😄
I agree as the early access gives gamers causes to play it when it comes finished.
