Diablo 4... beware if you have a Gigabyte 3080ti graphics card
Diablo 4 hit early access today for those who bought the Deluxe or Ultimate editions of the game and for the first time ever — or so it seems — the game launched at a decent time for my timezone. 9 in the morning.
Normally game launches are at around 1am my time and I am fast asleep. xD Which is normally a good thing because by the time I'm awake, the game has sorted out immediate launch issues and queues and I can dive right in.
With dim hopes that Blizzard had learnt something from the beta and their server stress tests (unlikely) I prepared myself with snacks and drinks and got comfortable, ready for a day of gaming.
It all started well. I was in a queue with a measly 3 minutes on the clock, made my character then jumped straight into the action!
Nope. Not Hardcore because I'm not a masochist.
Anyway.
I was an hour into my character. I had just finished a random world event, only to see a treasure goblin pop up on the minimap. Excited, I chased after it!!! I even took a screenshot, hoping to share my glory with you all once I wrote a glowing experience about my first day in this game.
Alas I didn't have a glowing experience in this first day of the game.
My monitor went black. My fans flew all the way to 50,000% jet engine speed. A burnt electrical smell wafted from my case. Diablo 4 bricked my graphics card.
Apparently there was a known issue during the beta a couple of months ago where there were instances of the game destroying 3080ti graphics cards, but I had no problem at the time.
And now, now that the game has officially launched (for Deluxe/Ultimate edition gamers), my graphics card is dead.
Thanks, Blizzard.
Thanks.
WHAT THE FUCK!? Get in contact with Blizzard! This seems like something they would need to replace!
It's more an issue with the Gigabyte card. Although it's Blizzard's programming and "optimisation" that create this issue, the issue lies within the hardware of the GPU itself. A lot like the whole New World thing when that was bricking people's graphics cards too. It wasn't really the game's fault, more an issue with the GPU.
My 3080ti is still under warranty but has been discontinued now. Next at comparable price is a 4070 lol, so maybe I'll get an upgrade out of this fiasco. XD
I'll cross my fingers for ya! It would be awesome if you got a 4070 out of er...
Come to think about it maybe I oughta give Diablo 4 a try xD
I'm blasting demons as Pizza, the rogue.
Sorry about your graphics card. I hope you find a replacement soon so you can return to sanctuary!
Woo! Haven't tried the rogue yet. :) That was my next choice, then necromancer!
I have a 1080ti installed now, but arrrghhhhhhhhh, so sad. Thankfully my graphics card is still under warranty so getting a return set up for it. Sigh.

What memories when I could make plans to play all day, when they launched a new server of any game xDDD enjoy it and become invincible
Fuck me that's a blow to the face. I hope you'll get a replacement soon. Warranty should get this, right?
I'm hoping there's something that can be done with warranty, it's not even a year old yet. It was September last year when I ordered it. 😭
I've submitted a claim and am just waiting for the vendor to do their side of things - they need to lodge my claim in their system and email me a return authorisation number so I can send the graphics card to them. They'll do their test, see that it's popped, and do what they do. Of course this happened on a Friday when I won't hear from them til Monday or Tuesday. xD
Since it's discontinued I'm hoping I can get a 4000 series out of this mess, haha.
I hope they pay you for a new one. I can't imagine my graphics card or laptop breaking down because of a game.
They won't pay me for a new one, but it's still under warranty. Using my partner's old 1080ti in the meantime and hopefully will have a more modern graphics card again in a couple of weeks. 😅
With the game, what happens is there's something that they haven't optimised and while most cards fluff over it and don't care, there was something with the Gigabyte card specifically that went mental over that one bit of programming. Asus cards, EVGA cards, they're fine with it... but Gigabyte did something wrong with theirs and BOOM.
That's really interesting for me, stupid actually but idk I hope you won't wait much for your graphic card 😓
:O THAT IS MADNES!!
the game literally killed your graphic card, ohh shit.
