A Newbie’s Guide: What To Do When You’re At The Edge Of Giving Up On Hive

Hello everyone in the hive blockchain, I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. Welcome to my blog.

Source

We were once newbies. The notable hivers you see today were once newbies. They also started with a rep score of 25. Lots of them also struggled with resource credit. Most people gave up, but the few that stayed focused are now reaping the rewards.

About 7 months ago, I was also in those shoes. I explored hive and I saw hivers with higher rep scores. I didn’t know what it meant at that type, but I liked it. I promised to work hard to get it. I also struggled with resource credit. There were days when I had to wait for a day or 2 for my RC to increase. Then I wandered my way into the Terminals discord channel. Thanks to them, they delegated some resource credit to me and I made good use of it.

I was confused about lots of things and I made countless mistakes. I remember tot first ever mistake on hive; I didn’t read the rules of ink well community, and I posted a violence related story (which was against the community role). I was lucky enough not to get punished. Even though I had awful experiences, I didn’t give up. I didn’t let those obstacles pull me down. Instead, I put in more effort. I doubled the hard work, and I can boldly say now that a better hiver.

The problem we have with newbies today is that they give up easily. Just because they wrote a post and it didn’t get the reward they were expecting, they give up and say “they are tired of hive”. Why get tired of what you haven’t even started?

NEWBIES SHOULD UNDERSTAND THIS ABOUT HIVE

There is one important thing newbies should understand about hive. Hive is not a get rich quick scheme. It is not a platform where you can just come, reap reward and go. No, it doesn’t work that way. You have to give In something, you have to offer something before you can receive.

Lots of newbies today give up on hive because they don’t have the virtue of patience. They complain that the coin is low valued. They complain that they don’t get enough voters on their posts. They complain that they don’t have enough time for hive.

I remember my first few days on hive. The first post I wrote was my introduction post and I managed to get about $3 on it, the second post I wrote was a story in the ink well community and I got about $5, but my subsequent post where I wrote a lot of words. I was really happy because I thought I’d wake up and see a very big reward on my post. But at the end of the day I got nothing (almost nothing on it) but I didn’t allow that to bring me down.

Instead of giving up so easily, newbies should exercise patience and give it another try. Here are some simple tips to Guide you.

EXPLORE THE BLOCKCHAIN AND FIND WHERE YOU FIT IN

The importance of this tip cannot be overemphasized. The blockchain is so vast. There are lots of communities. Explore and find where you fit in. If you’re the type that writes well, then the Ink well, free writers, and other communities are there for you. If you’re the type that loves reading books, the Hive Book Club community is there for you. There are lots of communities where you can fit into, all you have to do is just to explore.

One of the ways to improve on the blockchain is to explore communities for contests. There are lots of communities that host contests every week, find them and do the right thing.

CONSISTENCY, HARDWORK AND DETERMINATION

Source

The three values that always push me to become a better version of myself are; Consistency, Determination and Hardwork. These three keys are my pillars. My strong Pillars. These are the keys you’ll need to survive on the blockchain. Be consistent. Just because you wrote an article yesterday and it didn’t do well doesn’t mean you should give up, put in more effort and do it the next day. Be consistent, determined and hardworking.

ENGAGEMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT

I said earlier that for you to survive on the blockchain, you need to have something to offer. Your time and valuable comments are one of the things you need to offer. Don’t just dump your posts in communities, try to read other people’s posts and engage with them. Remember that spam comments are frowned on the blockchain. Don’t go around saying “Nice post”. Instead read the post, and drop your point of view.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Source

Writing a 10000 words article doesn’t mean you’ve written something good. Someone who wrote just 500 words might even do better than you with 10000 words. Don’t just jump into your article. Sit down, relax and think deeply before you start writing. Remember, quality over quantity.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Source

A lot of newbies complain about not having the time to blog on hive. Lots of us are busy with school and offline work, but we still make time for hive. How? Time management. The ability to manage time well should be a skill that every hiver should have. If you know posting everyday on hive won’t be possible for you, then change your plans. You can post today, engage tomorrow and post again the next day.

These are some of the tips that’d help newbies on the blockchain. Always keep these three important things at the back of your mind: Be Consistent, Be Determined , and Be Hardworking.

Thanks for reading.
