The Moving Saga: From Montreal to Nova Scotia, I am finally home!
I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, next to the sea, but for almost the past 20 years I have been living in Montreal, Quebec. Montreal is a beautiful, vibrant city with lots to see and do but my time was up and I have been dying to come back.
1 month ago my mother called me and asked if we would be interested in renting a house near the sea 0_0. A friend of hers is a real estate agent and had offered it to my mother but it's too far for her to commute. I scrambled to ask for details because the rental wasn't listed anywhere so there were no pictures, all we had was the address so we looked it up on google maps and checked out the area and the house using street view. After some hurried discussion we set up a video call so we could take a look the next day.
After seeing a quick walkthrough of the house and asking some questions we agreed to take it immediately :D
It's exactly what we needed! Close enough to the city that it won't be too hard to visit family, but rural enough that we won't be bothered, the house is surrounded by trees and is a 10 minute walk away from a beautiful beach <3
Now came the hard part, how TF do we get all our stuff and ourselves there?
Neither of us drive and we had quite a lot of stuff to move! With about a month to figure it out. We lucked out and ended up finding a really cool guy who agreed to help us move and drive us down there planned for the end of February. We were praying for good weather because this time of year can be very stormy. We started the prep, packing, figuring out how to change addresses, medical cards, bla bla bla. It was pretty stressful.
The day of the move finally came and I won't bore you with all the details but TLDR, it was intense as hell. We packed the truck and drove for 16 HOURS in -15C weather then unpacked immediately on arrival. Suffice it to say we were tired as hell.
Most of the drive through New Brunswick looked like this:
We passed through a few snow storms where the road was barely visible, the GPS took us offroad at 3 AM onto some small dirt roads which is pretty dangerous in a 2 tonne truck, we were terrified to get stuck and need to wait all night for a tow, we would have froze to death 0_0
WE'RE IN HEAVEN
We arrived safely a little worse for wear ofc, and are now mostly unpacked and getting set-up. I am still amazed when I look around and realize that I live here, it's kind of surreal and I think I am just absorbing it LOL. We are excited to make a garden when it warms up and enjoy the swimming at the BEACH which I have missed so much all these years. @vachemorte is getting his studio setup and is excited to make music with NO NEIGHBORS!
I am loving this wood stove
I can't begin to describe how happy we are, everything seems perfectly made for us and exactly how we wanted it, I will make an update post when we have everything all set-up :)

Ugh yes I was born in Canada and I still can't handle the cold, lol I hate it!
Wow congratulations on the move! Thought you bought a house. Lol. At least you're all quite settled in.
It's the plan, we want to buy down here so it will be easier to go look at houses in person if we are close!
Alright. Good luck! 😊
That sounds fast and wonderful. Glad you are now happy where you are.
Thanks we love it so muchhhh!
I'm so happy you made this move @juliakponsford and I Adore Nova Scotia some dear friends of ours have a place there on the sea, it's so lovely all sandstone beach and you can see PEI when the sky is right. Such a magical place Nova Scotia!
Nice, they must be on the northern part near the bay of fundy, if we buy a house it's possible it will be up in that region, it is indeed magical <3
Awesome! I can already see that you're going to really enjoy living there!
Yeahhh loving it so far, we are the most happy that we finally have enough space outside for a proper garden!
Very exciting news indeed. Sounds lovely!
Glad you two survived the trip and I'm already looking forward to what this will bring you ( and us ) creatively.
Sending you a friendly raptor hug from Portugal!
Thanks Vincent, we are finally all set up and getting to enjoy our new home!
Great to hear that :<)
