Houseflies have become societal nuisance to our community. We have not seen the advantage they provide to we humans, but they rather cause a lot of havoc to we humans. The are vectors which carry the bacteria vibro-cholerae which cause the cholera disease. The most annoying part is that the flies are around everywhere and they cause a lot of troubles by touching our utensils and food. We always live with them, though they aren't our pets. The little mistake you do, they fall into our food.

The feeding habit of Housefly

Houseflies feed on wide varieties of food substances. They mostly feed on liquid food substances because of their proboscis or siphons mouth parts. They always suck and can also puncher in so many food substances. The liquid foods are said to be sucked and the solid foods are said to be wetted with saliva to be dissolved before ingestion. Their feeding style is more like scavenging (feeding on dead carcasses) and other waste materials or rotten materials such as leftovers and decomposed meat. They feed on manure and garbages such as faeces of animals. They also prefer sugary foods. They consume milk and blood of humans.

1• The most prevailing problem that housefly cause is transferring of types of diseases. As I had mentioned already houseflies transfer disease causing organisms onto people or their food. They carry these pathogens while feeding on rotten food and other waste. They then carry them along to humans. Cholera, diarrhoea and typhoid are some of the diseases the housefly leave for humans.

2• Nuisance in the environment.
If houseflies gather in large numbers, they could be a source of worry to people who are working. They can make people feel bad because their presence is considered a sign of unhygienic environment.

3• Food poisoning.

Houseflies can fly for several kilometers, carrying a wide variety of organisms on their hairs, mouthparts, and faeces. When the fly lands on food, it can transmit several pathogens like viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes. These pathogens can poison the food which can be harmful to humans.

The Control of Houseflies

Like the life cycle of mosquitoes control measures, when we comprehend the activities off and life cycle of houseflies, we can control them. Houseflies can be reduced or controlled to some extent if we adopt cultural or physical, chemical or biological means.

a• The physical or cultural means is through good sanitation of our environment where we live. We have to also make sure to destroy all food that the flies can lay their eggs and multiply at long round. all ditches and stagnant waters must be distilled to discourage houseflies from breeding there. We can remove all garbages and manures frequently to avoid the flies from feeding. This would at subside the population of houseflies.

2• Screening of opening: screens or covers windows are provided to prevent the entry of flies in rooms. It's advisable to always keep doors closed to prevent flies from entering.

3• The use of traps maybe useful to control flies.

This method is very useful to control houseflies. It involves the use of recommended chemicals like insecticides spray to kill the flies.

This is by the use of natural enemies like parasitic wasps to kill the immature houseflies. The larvae of the black soldier fly compete with those of the housefly for food. This adversely affects the breeding of the breeding of the housefly.
