Liencres beaches
Trying to enjoy, immersing yourself, as far as possible, in the singular characteristics of that charismatic Costa Quebrada, which characterizes this area, so particularly wild in Cantabria, can mean, for the eyes of the lay traveler, that the visit by first time, a whole fascinating universe to discover.
It goes without saying, in this sense, that in this area, which extends more or less from the so-called Natural Park of the Dunes of Liencres, to the vicinity of Santander and its bay, there are innumerable coves and beaches, where to stop and be embraced, metaphorically speaking, by the chameleonic waters of that Cantabrian Sea, which, even calm, always enjoy respect, given their irrepressible strength and bravery.
Since it would be impossible to collect them all in a single exhibition and as added information, which, I hope, can complement the data offered in the previous post, dedicated to the Urros de Liencres (https://travelfeed.io/@juancar347/magical- cantabria-the-broken-coast-and-the-urros-of-liencres) I hope you find this short walk pleasant along those most popular beaches, which make up the coastline, properly speaking, of Liencres.
These could be practically summarized in the following: Portío beach, Las Cerrias beach and the largest, most welcoming and best equipped for bathing, which is a continuity of the Liencres Dunes Natural Park, that bears the name, that of Valdearenas.
On the other hand, and before beginning to expose, to a greater or lesser extent, the characteristics of these places, perhaps it is relevant, as additional information, to comment that there is a small viewpoint, halfway between the towns of Liencres and Boo de Pielagos, from which it is possible to contemplate, not without a certain astonishment, what the famous Dunes of Liencres are and also, how, unfortunately, the construction of urbanizations in recent years, has contributed to alter and therefore, to break part of that natural charm that made this area, in the past, something rare and worth knowing.
Having said this, the first of the beaches, that of Portio, is perhaps the most rugged of all, located in a crossbow curve, which leaves behind, covered by the cliff, the famous natural islets or Urros, but in whose constitution, the erosive action of the water and the winds that constantly whip this part of the coast, endowed with singular beauty.
The one in Portio, perhaps, is also the one that, in its constitution, has the greatest number of loose stones, which, at first, can be an obstacle for those who are used to bathing on beaches with long and warm stretches of sand, detail, which, although it may not seem like it, does not intimidate the numerous bathers, who, in the summer times, usually camp on its shores.
There are also numerous urbanizations and hotels, located at the foot of the cliff, among whose services is being able to access this beach, through small rural paths, which invite you to walk and adventure, also having garden areas, which, by themselves, already constitute a spectacular viewpoint.
Next to Portio beach, and at the end of a residential area and contrasting with the natural beauty of the coast, endowed with a soft savannah, is Las Cerrias beach, wider and, above all, less stony than the previous one, where, in addition to the appropriate baths, you can also enjoy pleasant walks along the coast.
Lastly, located in the heart of the Liencres Dunes Natural Park, the largest and most spectacular of the beaches, Valdearenas, is certainly the most popular and, at the same time, the most desired and frequented by locals and vacationers.
This beach has all the desirable services: from parking and restaurant services, to surveillance and lifeguard services. It is accessed through a road, whose speed is limited to 30 kilometers per hour and is frequently monitored by the Liencres municipal police, which runs through a dense and ancient forest, an added detail, which, of course, invites get carried away by adventure, with pleasant walks through this authentic natural lung. In short: a magical, special place to disconnect from everyday toxicity and fully enjoy the therapeutic beauty of nature.
