[ENG-SPN] A place called O Cebreiro / Un lugar llamado O Cebreiro

One of the most brutal stretches of the Primitive Way to Saint James of de Compostela is located on the border between León and Lugo, when the pilgrims, leaving behind the emblematic city of Villafranca del Bierzo, including the superb Gate of Forgiveness of the church of Saint James, face that true Golgotha and it is not a metaphor, which is the climb of one of the most legendary ports in Spain: O Cebreiro.

At the end of it, it is not at all surprising that, exhausted by the effort made, the pilgrims are surprised by the sight of one of the most surprising, mysterious - due to the legends and the disconcerting relics that it guards in its humble and ancestral Romanesque church - and beautiful towns in Galicia, whose name, as you may have guessed, is the same as that of the port on which it sits.

If anyone remembers that great classic of American musical cinema, which is the film starring Gene Kelly and entitled ‘Brigadoon’, they will agree, as does the pilgrim, that O Cebreiro, with its pallozas or houses of ancestral Celtic architecture, is another of those enchanted places in the world, where, for whatever reason, time seems to have stopped forever.

What an interesting building. Those are the kind that I only got to see in mid century movies.

It is a thousand-year-old building, with rustic, humble architecture, using the most common type of stone in the area, slate. But it is also a very harmonious construction, far from the excesses of ornamentation that also characterize the Romanesque architecture to which it belongs and that humility makes it, of course, very beautiful. I am glad you like it and thank you very much for your comment.
