[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] Free Guy | An NPC who wants to break his routine
Welcome my dear internet traveling gamers and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, video game culture has already become something that if you are not involved at least you will know of someone who is, starting from that base and including an AI is that you get the film "Free Guy" which focuses on the life of an NPC from a video game. Bienvenidos mis queridos jugadores viajeros del internet y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, la cultura de los videojuegos ya se ha convertido en algo que si no estás involucrado por lo menos sabrás de alguien que si, partiendo de esa base e incluyendo una IA es que se obtiene el filme "Free Guy" la cual se enfoca en la vida de un NPC de un videojuego. Sin más que agregar agarren sus controles pues estamos por comenzar la partida.
Free Guy was released in 2021, directed by Shawn Levy, produced by Berlanti Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment, with a duration of 1 hour and 54 minutes. It is an action and comedy film, the story focuses on Free City, an open world video game that gives its players a lot of freedom, the drawback is that a stolen code was used to make this game, so one of the people I think the original code is found searching the entire game in order to find evidence to prove the theft, the original code was designed to make the NPCs have the ability to evolve and learn, this feature being the one that will make one of the characters of the game end up becoming a crucial piece to demonstrate the fraud.
Free Guy fue estrenada en 2021, dirigida por Shawn Levy, producida por Berlanti Productions y 21 Laps Entertainment, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 54 minutos. Es una cinta de acción y comedia, la historia se centra en Free City un videojuego de mundo abierto que les da mucha libertad a sus jugadores, el inconveniente radica en que para hacer este juego se usó un código robado por lo que una de las personas que creo el código original se encuentra buscando en todo el juego a fin de buscar evidencia para poder demostrar el robo, el código original estaba pensado para hacer que los NPC tuviesen la capacidad de ir evolucionando y aprendiendo siendo esta característica la que hará que uno de los personajes del juego termine convirtiéndose en una pieza crucial para demostrar el fraude.

La banda sonora acompaña de buena forma a los diferentes acontecimientos que se van desarrollando en la trama, en la mayoría de los casos está se siente bastante animada y agradable.
The construction of the world is a very well achieved success, it has countless references to the culture of video games, whether to titles themselves, to film franchises with a presence in the gaming field or to streamers, all of this makes the world virtual feels well built. On the other hand, the real world also has a good development because it focuses on generating the typical community that is created around a video game, from programmers and development staff to consumers, anyone who is moderately aware of the current world of video games will be able to confirm this.
La construcción de mundo es un acierto muy bien logrado, esta cuenta con un sin número de referencias a la cultura de los videojuegos bien sea a títulos en sí, a franquicias cinematográfica con presencia en ámbito gaming o de streamers, todo esto hace que el mundo virtual se sienta bien construido. Por otro lado, el mundo real también tiene un buen desenvolvimiento debido a que se enfoca en generar la típica comunidad que se crea alrededor de un videojuego, desde los programadores y personal de desarrollo hasta los consumidores, cualquier persona que esté medianamente enterada del mundo actual de los videojuegos podrá confirmar esto.
The plot is loaded with absurd and action moments that are completely entertaining, managing to convey that chaotic and fun experience that can be felt in many video games or in the community. Despite its level of comedy, it contains interesting themes such as plagiarism and the lack of interest of some corporations in fixing the bugs in their games and just wanting to get more money from the consumer. These do not add overwhelming complexity to the narrative, but it is appreciated that they are included. The film lasts almost 2 hours, however it does not feel boring because it is always adding something interesting that makes its duration very enjoyable, it does not seek to work in a way that would be any of the elements it incorporates, which is the right decision, since that stays attached to its relaxing and silly essence.
La trama se encuentra cargada de momentos absurdos y de acción que son completamente entretenidos, logrando transmitir esa experiencia caótica y divertida que se puede palpar en muchos videojuegos o en la comunidad. Pese a su nivel de comedia alberga temas interesantes como el plagio y el desinterés de algunas corporaciones por arreglar los fallos que sus juegos y solo querer sacarle más dinero al consumidor, estos no le añaden una complejidad abrumadora a la narrativa pero se agradece que sean incluidos. El filme dura casi 2 horas, no obstante este no se siente aburrido debido a que siempre está añadiendo algo interesante que hace su duración muy disfrutable, no busca trabajar de forma sería ninguno de los elementos que incorpora, lo que es la decisión correcta, ya que se mantiene apegada a su esencia relajante y tonta.
The characters are broadly speaking and mostly pleasant, this is because although most of them do not have a notable focus, they still contribute in a subtle way to the advancement of the narrative. Guy turns out to be a very notable protagonist, having a very well-done characterization. Taking into account everything he goes through, he could easily present a certain degree of depth that would make him look even more human and plausible, although he does not have a three-dimensional development. It manages to convey well that message that anyone can be the hero of their own story, something simple but a good job at the end of the day. The antagonist is quite an idiot and it's funny, to a certain point it feels like a mockery towards those unpleasant developers who only aspire to generate wealth, again the film uses a simple concept but it works very well due to the objective of the film.
Los personajes son a grandes rasgos y en su mayoría agradables, lo anterior se debe a que pese a que la mayoría no tiene un enfoque destacable igual contribuyen de forma sutil al avance de la narrativa. Guy resulta ser un protagonista muy denotable teniendo una caracterización muy bien lograda, tomando en cuenta por todo lo que atraviesa este pudo fácilmente llegar a presentar cierto grado de profundidad que lo hiciese ver aún más humano y plausible, si bien este no tiene un desarrollo tridimensional consigue transmitir bien ese mensaje que cualquiera puede ser el héroe de su propia historia, algo simplón pero un buen trabajo al final del día. El antagonista es bastante imbécil y hace gracia, hasta cierto punto se siente como una burla hacia aquellos desarrolladores desagradables que solo aspiran a generar riqueza, nuevamente el filme emplea un concepto simple pero que queda muy bien debido al objetivo de la cinta.
Free Guy is a well-made film because it manages to convey a message and represent to a certain extent something from the world of gaming, it knows how to insert good comedy in the ideal moments to relax the plot and make it more enjoyable, the themes about self-improvement and carving out your own way are quite generic but they still look good. It is for all of the above that it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, a film more than recommended to turn off your brain for a while and enjoy all the absurdity it houses.
Free Guy es un filme bien logrado debido a que consigue transmitir un mensaje y representar en cierta medida algo del mundo del gaming, sabe insertar buena comedia en los momentos idóneos para relajar la trama y hacerla más amena, los temas sobre superación y de labrar tu propio camino son bastante genéricos pero de igual forma quedan bien. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3.5 estrellas de 7, una cinta más que recomendada para apagar el cerebro un rato y disfrutar de toda la absurdez que alberga.
