[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] Insidious: The Red Door | The demon attacks again

Without further ado, prepare to walk in the dark because we are about to begin.

Insidious: The Red Door was released in July of this year, it is the fifth installment of the Insidious saga, it was directed by Patrick Wilson and produced by Blumhouse Productions, it has a duration of 1 hour and 47 minutes. It is a supernatural horror and suspense film, the events that occurred in the second installment are resumed, it shows a completely fractured Lambert family as a result of all the horrors they experienced years ago, due to this Josh and Dalton have a very tense relationship due to the absence of memories of those events, those who have not forgotten have carried the weight of the truth, the thrust of disaster is brought about by the return of entities that seek to take the lives of both the father and the son.

The soundtrack is the same as the rest of the films in the saga, generic music used by most horror films that you could hear anywhere else.

The world building is exactly the same as in the rest of the installments, however I have to highlight that it is nice that there is a little more emphasis on trying to use the environment in a more interesting way in order to decently generate an intriguing atmosphere. Outside of that there is nothing more to mention because the rest of the elements remain exactly the same.

The plot largely feels exactly the same as its predecessors, although its positive element is the fact that it generates some moments of tension that, while not scary, are a nice touch. Another notable point is that they show the consequences after the events of the second installment. The problem with this is that it is used incorrectly by focusing on it more as something dramatic than as a driver of suspense or terror. Although it has some different things, the narrative is maintained with few changes and following the formula of its predecessors, so the film becomes tedious to watch. This increases if the viewer has already seen the other films, which makes it easier to notice patterns that are constantly repeated.

During this installment we sought to give a certain degree of depth to the characters by showing them affected by the events they experienced in the past, the problem with this is that it is a good idea that does not come together due to lack of time and the fact that The characters feel like strangers. The interactions that exist between some of these had the potential to generate something moderately interesting but since there is no prior development this feels forced and rushed so it doesn't really end up being a good job. The antagonist is once again a demon who just wants to kill them and so on, this concept used so many times that it only makes you feel ashamed for the lack of creativity.

Insidious: The Red Door has some good concepts that appeal to give an air of freshness to the saga but unfortunately these new concepts are overwhelmed by the countless mistakes that it continues to make in the same way as in the first installment of the series. saga. It is for all of the above that it deserves 2 stars out of 7, its greatest sin lies in making the resolution exactly the same as in a previous installment, denoting its inability to create a new resolution.

Looking at the Insidious saga in general I can only say that it only had a moment of interest in its first installment where the different problems and the various situations felt fresh, unfortunately it tries to replicate that same formula in the rest of the films producing a wear and tear on what once worked and only leaving a wreckage of what once was. I only give this saga 2 stars out of 7, it is not a franchise dedicated to horror that is enjoyable because it only repeats the same thing over and over again, at most I would recommend the first installment and with that you will know what to expect. happens in the following ones.
