Weekly featured contest || week13/episode 1 || THE LEFT HAND STROKES
Hello hive learners.
Trust our weekend went creamy๐๐๐. I wish everyone a beautiful week ahead
If only time can be reversed, I would have done so. The sweet savour of all the experiences of been an high school student can and never be over emphasized as it marks a major enjoyable and memorable part of my life.
Some times ago while I was still in the high school, in my year three to be precise, I had grown and always wanting to play around friends within the same class. I don't actually relate with seniors except for the feminine group of them (lol).
Within that period, I had developed interest in music and this I picked up from few folks in the church. I am actually a church boy. So, my music is mainly the church kind. But within that learning, I also found some of my music mentors in the church doing well with singing in parties and the curious guy that I am, also desired to emulate him and so will always gather my friends to sing with them and this accompanied by druming on the tables and chairs and using our mouths as the musical instruments.
Here comes this faithful afternoon when me and my friends during a siesta decided to do some music groove in the class. So, we gathered round a laboratory table that was abandoned in our class for teachers to use as a supporting table. It's a very big one that can accommodate up to ten persons at once if they stand round it. That was how we gathered round it and then began to sing. I was the ring leader or better said- the lead singer.
Because of the enthusiasm since it was break time, we never considered that our class was the very next to the staff room and the principal's office as well. This means that, any small noise will actually be heard in the principal's office.
Now, I love to do just a little play especially when it has to do with my passion, like music. I don't get myself into rough play, I don't have such strength. I am also not the dull kind. As a matter of fact, I was the most brilliant in my class, I communicate the most in English more than everyone. I am also the quiet kind except when it's time to sing , drum and dance.
As we got deep in our music groove, since we had scrapped from our mind the fact that we were closed to the officials rooms. The enthusiasm got into us and the music got louder disturbing everyone in the staffroom and interestingly the school's principal who was available in school at that moment. When they couldn't bear the noise anymore, the principal himself came out to arrest us and took us to the front of the staffroom where we were outrightly judged according to the magnitude of our crime. We were about five in number including one of us who was a staff's son. That day we thought to ourselves that we were already dead.
That day, I got to discover that my then principal (of blessed memory ) was a left handed man. He didn't allow anyone to flog us, he did the flogging himself. I guess he was very angry probably because we have been reported to be disturbing over time. I cannot forget the scenario of this horrible circumstance that faithful day. I felt like disappearing into the Earth when I saw his method of flogging. But thank God, I didn't receive the most lashes like my friend who was a staff's son. The principal was raged the more and flogged us well mainly because of the guy who was a staff's son and he'd flogged him the most.
From that very day till I left that school, I don't think we ever had the thought of gathering to do any local music groove because we never want the repetition of an event especially that of been flogged by the principal. I simply faced singing in the school fellowship since there won't be any penalty for singing there and moreso, I have an eternal reward for exercising my passion in the school fellowship, not like the reward of been flogged for my passion.
Till this very moment, we still remember the principal's statement while flogging us which he made in one of the Nigeria language that we all understood. This statement in English would mean " curve your back or hunch your back". We even used it to make jest when we see ourselves to remind ourselves how we were reset to default with a rod. It was really an experience. The quiet me received uncountable lashes of cain.
Well, we had to come to the realization that there is time for everything and thank God we were corrected then. It turned out to be good for us.

Back then, our backs and canes were best buddies. There was a time that no week would go back without them meeting. But thankfully, we got wiser.
