Hoy se celebra el Día Mundial de la Fotografía, instituido por un grupo de fotógrafos en el 2007, tomando como fecha el 19 de agosto, pues fue en esa fecha hace 185 años, en 1839, cuando el gobierno francés liberó la patente del daguerrotipo, producto impulsado por Louis Daguerre tomando como referencia el trabajo de Joseph Niépce.

Como bien lo señaló la ensayista Susan Sontag,

En una era de sobrecarga informativa, la fotografía ofrece un modo expedito de comprender algo y un medio compacto de memorizarlo.

Por medio de ella objetivamos una realidad presente, que queda registrada para nuestra memoria, o visitamos el pasado como testimonio de lo experimentado, sea un hecho, una persona, un objeto en general. Pese a todo el avance tecnológico, la fotografía permanece como uno de los más valiosos aportes culturales.

Aquí les entrego seis fotos hechas en días recientes en mi ciudad, Cumaná (Sucre, Venezuela), que puede ilustrar lo antes expuesto.
