Curation Dilemma: Maintaining A Healthy Vote-Weight
I woke up at midnight with my vote weight around 70% and this got me worried because I try as much as possible to maintain my vote weight above 75% because the vote value would be worth more when the weight is decent. But there are times when I get overzealous with curating and I end up unknowingly going below 75%, this hurts the potential content that I might curate next because I might be skeptical about curating their content whether it's good or not since the vote weight is low.
You see, curating sometimes is about who was the earliest, especially when it is manual, It is more sentimental because one is left with making a choice and forgoing another, the reason is because of the limitations and constant need to reach a wider range of the content base. This is why curation at a Manuel level can be quite difficult.
Now having a higher Hive stake makes this easier, because the value is better, there'll be a need to further reduce the vote percentage and this is why smaller curators are left with a lower vote weight than they planned because they're trying to give votes with bigger value.
A lot of times, I miss voting a lot of content because they were posted at a stage when my vote weight should be recovering, even when I try to vote them later, there's this thing deep down that makes us prefer curating newer content even if there's an obligation to older content when one's VW is low.
The Hive Blockchain is evolving, there's now a lesser concentration on the concept of value when it comes to content creation it's now more of impact, engagement, intent and networking, this is mostly what influences my curating practices as well as hundreds of others too.
Nevertheless, there'll always be more content and lesser VW to go around, this means, a curator will forever be in the dilemma of picking one content over the other, Irrespective of quality.
On the other hand, having a 100% vote weight is counterproductive, because it's bringing no intentional passive income as a result of a user's curation preferences. the main reasons why people have Hive power is to curate and earn passively as well as utilize the resource credit to be on-chain, but there are times we'd be unavailable and we'd need to have the curations coming through.
Autovotes are without sentiments because their reason, value, and intent are already set and it's always easier to set autovotes but more difficult to curate manually because of the need to constantly make a choice.
At the end of the day, it's the beauty of the blockchain, the ability to make a change in one's choices to maximize their stake passively while making a plausible choice. Everyone's choice for curation will always be sentimental and will never completely tally with the choice of another.
However, knowing when to withhold and when to curate can also be dependent on how healthy one's VW can be as much as it is also dependent on their approval of certain content. My problem now is finding a way to vote the contents that I deem well while making a healthy VW of at least 75% for the closing of the day, I guess, I'll have to make better choices.

This was very insightful, I never really thought of it this way.
I know this shouldn't make me reduce the value of the content I write but I can't seem to get it out of my head now. I now know that timing too has and impact. I'm still trying to navigate my way through hive but maybe in the growth of hive in the future, ways should be made for curators to pin posts they found interesting for when their vote weight is back up.
This shouldn't make you reduce at any slightest, it's just to also point out the fact that there are also other factors that are necessary apart from the focus on contenting itself. Hive is huge, quality content will only take one thus far, there are other interesting aspect too.

I would say I was in a bit of the same dilemma, but unlike you, I’m a newbie with a very small stake. My vote isn’t worth much anyways(I still vote regardless).
It’s like we’re in a constant race against the voting power. It doesn’t recharge as fast as we need to vote and so it just never get’s fully recharged for very active people.
I think the issue also has a little to do with how much engagement you do. Most people I know vote comments too aside posts. This takes a part of the voting power and more so if you engage more.
Well Irrespective of stake, a curator is a curator, I also have a small stake. The difference here is that the people with the larger stake are the ones who gets to gets to keep their VW up there and still manage to curate as many contents because their VW carries a lot of $$$ value.
Yeah, voting comments is also a way of appreciating the content creator especially if their input reflects the contents one has read.

You are one of the few curators I know that vote manually which is great, most times is not always easy picking a post to curate but sometimes we should just go with our heart because there will always be content to curate

This is true, it's not even easy at all making the decision, but one aspect is, curation feels good and this is the absolute truth. I'll just continue to carry on with it.

I try to keep my own voting power above 80%. However, I do think I should probably drop it down further. After all, most of my activity happens at night and it's not as consistent lately.
