Irrigation practice for maize crop in west Africa.
HELLO HIVE
While most places in Nigeria are practically experiencing the first rainfall of the year getting fresh corn is a tough ask right now but there are some places that have manage to make getting fresh corn possible right now, these are mostly places with a good form of water system that can last crops from planting down to harvesting without the need for rainfall before mechanized irrigation farming was made available irrigation had already been in use that's not new but the used of machines to irrigate the farm only amplified it even more and this made it possible to farm during dry period on a larger scale compared to how it use to be.
Enhancing irrigation even more will help improve agriculture and reduce hunger or food scarcity in different parts of the world, you don't see much people around the show interest in agriculture like it should be the importance that is placed around it is not good enough from my own perspective I think a lot of people don't know how irrigation farming has positively affected food security and social economic development, irrigation in west Africa as a whole helps farmers to make key strategies that will aid the optimal usage of water in west Africa.
Efficient water management is the key aspect of irrigation farming and the water needs of maize crop is different for every stage of its development whilst the maize is young it's water needs are not much but it has to be consistent considering the heat that this period brings with it but when it starts growing it will increase the most delicate when farmers have to provide water to the maize corn is when it starts to bear fruit at this point the water supply increases because the seeds need quite a lot of water if the water supply should reduce or even stop at this point then all the efforts that we put in from the start to this point will definitely be in vain.
Right now I have put a hold on irrigating this maize farm that is beside a river because rainfall has started in the past few days and it has been consistent enough to meet the needs of the farm for now if need arise in the future then irrigating it should not be a problem.
Wow, I love that kind of healthy corn plant. I wonder what kind of corn is that?
