How long does rice seedlings need on a nursery bed need before transplanting?

HELLO HIVE

There are so many big important questions that we ask ourselves as farmers, daily question like what would be the best way to cultivate certain crops and how we can improve their overall productivity, the overall productivity of so many crops hugely depends on our timing as farmers since farming is all about seed time, harvest time and whatever that comes in between them.

The timing in every case has to be right to maximize the farm and get best out of what we are planting when transplanting rice the timing has to be right.

Certain things need to already in place before we transplant the rice most especially farm land needs to be ready, but then how long Should the seedlings even last on the nursery bed before transplanting?

  • Well it shouldn't be more than three weeks or less than a week now what I mean by these is the seedlings can be transplanted to the farm once it is more than a week old that way the roots and the stems would be strong enough to withstand the way we are pulling it out of the ground, the whole transportation process wouldn't affect much and the seedlings can survive their new environment that's most times different from the nursery bed that's not swampy but dry.

  • And it needs to be less than three weeks old because the seedlings respond better when it is younger that means it adapts more at this point than when when it is old and the most important part is that it is easier to uproot and transplant since the roots haven't gotten much deeper.

Everything we need has to be in place in other to meet this timing so it is advisable to have cleared the land, applied herbicide and if possible cultivated the land before making any step to plant the seeds in the nursery bed.

You mean rice will be ready in 3 weeks? We don't really cultivate rice in my area because of the type of soil we have.
