Clean Water Matters: The Secret to Healthy Poultry
HELLO HIVE
One of the Overlooked aspects of poultry farming especially broilers is water it looks simple on the outside but there's actually more to it we actually see it, if you've ever raised poultry birds before then you will know that it is one of the most important aspects of poultry farming and if we can keep their feed and water clean then we have a good chance of making good income from poultry farming. In our small homestead, their water is nonnegotiable; we have to clean their drinker and replace their water regularly.
Why is water a big deal for poultry farming?
Disease prevention:
Dirty water is a breeding ground for disease-causing bacteria; when we don't treat their water the right way, the chances of these birds coming in contact with bacterial are very high, and the chance of it spreading from one bird to another is also very high since the birds are drinking from the same drinker.
It's the reason behind placing their drinkers on a block where their feet wouldn't reach it.
Digestion:
Water helps broilers to digest the rich protein contents of their meals. That way, their digestion is easier.
Heat regulation:
The temperature is generally hot here, and that's the idea behind adapting to the weather to prevent heavy losses; while the pen was built in a way to adapt to the weather, it is important to supply clean water to the birds regularly.
Elevating the water is one idea that works a lot. It prevents a lot of bacteria from getting into their drinking water. I also have a timetable to make sure I don't miss the time to change and clean their drinker. That way, I can monitor their drinking water.
