My Trip to The Yanchep Lagoon, Western Australia

In the second month living in the city of Perth, Western Australia, I was lucky to be able to visit Yanchep Lagoon, the journey took one hour from Perth City, my friends and I from Aceh, accompanied by Dian, an Indonesian citizen who is married to an Australian man, they lived without away from Yanchep Lagoon, Wanneroo.

I was really amazed to see the beauty of the long, cliff-lined beach overgrown with vegetation, car parks and large blufftop stalls. The water is clear, the coral reefs stick out, with curved shores, the waves are usually low, the water flows over the reefs into lagoons and out of permanent canals. We must be aware of this current if swimming in this channel.

This beach is very popular for swimming and snorkeling. In calm conditions the beach is quite safe, one has to swim between the flags and be careful of the strong currents flowing out of the lagoon into deeper waters. It has calm and clear water, with waves averaging over 1 meter along the coast. The safest places to swim are the south lagoon beaches and the south end of the main lagoon.

On this beach Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club always patrols the beach during the summer which runs from October to March. Surf Club in action on Sundays.

We were there on a Sunday, the car park is large across the road from the beach.

Next to the parking lot is Yanchep Lagoon Café. There is also a small playground in the grassy area next to the cafe to relax. Also there is a toilet block with shower and changing facilities. There is also a shower at the beach entrance, this facility is free.
