Enjoying Jurung Fish in the Upper Aceh Inland River
Neolissochilus sumatranus (Cyprinidae) scientific name, Sumtra people are called, Jurung fish or local Acehnese called "keureuling" is one of the freshwater fish that live in the Meureubo river, Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh.
According to Zainab, apart from cooking, jung fish are also dried by smoking or smoking. The size varies, from 15 inches the price is up to one metre.
Apart from gardening, explained Zainab, as a woman, a resident of Sikundo every day makes a living looking for fish in the Meureubo river, by fishing, netting, and setting up nets.
"Fishing for fish is an ancestral tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation, which is still practiced by the people of Sikundo," said Zainab.
When facing Islamic holidays, such as before Hari Raya, or the Birthday of the Great Prophet Muhammad SAW, Sikundo residents visit and stay in the forest looking for Jurung fish.
“Each group of 4-5 people. sometimes staying in the forest for a week, the yield can reach 25-30 kg of jung fish, then divided and cooked, “said Zainab again.
However, some residents are still looking for fish every day, both day and night.
