Purr-fect Bliss

Cats Whiskers

No matter the destination we attract pets wherever we wander, well cats to be exact, open the door sure to have a couple of wild cats to greet you.

Now this leads me on to think..., here we worry about housing, next meal or drink, these cats are neutered by the locals to slow down growth population, for good reason.

Domestic cats tend to breed at speed, rely on humans to get food with ever such clever tactics of cuteness overload, birds and other wildlife then affected when too many populate a region.

Perhaps there is a lesson in here to consider our breeding habits, food and housing.

Thought they may be a brother and sister making their way through life together.

Close enough for comfort to laze in the late afternoon sun.

Orange rump and gorgeous markings, only one of the two allowed a little touch the other totally wary of human contact.

Home comfort found around holiday dwellings...

Purrrfect bliss cat heaven!

African wildcat (Felis lybica) look very similar to a domestic house cats with tell tale ginger/orange behind the ears, belly and hind legs.

Gene pool is weakened when breeding with domestic cats by what I have learned, with possibility of wild cats living wild with close proximity of bushveld, the town has been vigilant keeping on eye on these who look so similar to the only wildcat I have seen.

African wildcat (Felis lybica) Photograph taken 2018 when visiting Wildcat Rehabilitation Centre

Cats have been domesticated for a long time, one wonders how close to the original cats they are compared to what roamed Egypt years ago. They hunt at night, sitting next to the fire watching them zip up trees in no time at all jumping between trees on high at times where trees grow close together, a problem for bird life at night.

As always thanks for visiting hope you found the cats interesting, although not friendly to touch did join us every evening for a little piece of meat to enjoy, keeping good company I hope!

That's some thoughts about cats relying on humans for food, there have been lots in the yard I stay lately and reproducing at fast rate.

Happy Sunday Joan.

Speak to local vet many become involved in projects neutering the cats, many feedings posts set up along behind sand dunes down here where the cats are fed daily.

These rely on humans to get the odd treat, still more wild than most. Local fisherman throw excess into feeding bins behind their establishment in this town for the cats when times are tough.

Happy Sunday !LUV and thanks for visiting.

These cats look like siblings of our gray cat Onyx, apart from the orange rump that he doesn't have, and they look just as lovely as he does.
We do have wild cats here too, but I haven't seen any in my entire life. And we have stray cats, but even these are very rarely to see.

Cats are beautiful, perhaps Onyx has African gene in his/her DNA.

These two would sit with us, no touching then they would run away, returning quietly later and sit again.

Onyx is a young boy 😉
Even if they don't let you touch them it's such a good feeling when a cat is near - I love cats 😍

They made for good company, happy to lie next to us or under the chair, touching is not necessary when enjoying quiet time.

Animals let you know, honest in how they feel, easier to make friends with them than humans.

Some animals you look straight in the eye, others don't dare try that !LOLZ you could end up in trouble.

Everybody who looks in the eyes of a bear is to blame himself.

Oh yes, it's hot here but the weatherman says the weekend will be rainy - we'll see if it cools down too 🌦️

It rained during Thursday night and Friday was hot again, but sleeping was really cool 😃

Sorry for replying late, but I haven't been much at home - long day at work on Friday and two hikes (one on Thursday evening and one this morning).

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend 🌞😊

Teleport myself into those surroundings what amazing view, soft cloud dancing over hills in superb lighting.

Two hikes sound like music to the ears, able to get away from everything, switch off and enjoy.

Much like yourself I answer when time allows, in person 😌 !LUV to family perhaps share !PIZZA tonight.

PS: Thanks for brilliant photography, supreme as always.

The best thing was that I have had it all for me alone. When I met the first other people I was on my way back down and all this warm and soft morning light was gone. That's why I love to get up even at 2 in the morning 😁

Enjoy your Sunday and maybe also have a !PIZZA tonight, served with !LUV

Some cats do have a better life than most humans.

Agree they find places to keep warm and fed, no hassles planning life out, except staying alive.

Cats have been domesticated for ages, very clean to have in a home.

Only part we need to play is in having them neutered to avoid unwanted litter of kittens.

oh they really are beautiful Joan:)
Cats are wonderful animals and in a way it is good that they are wary.

We have a strong feeling they may be the same ones we saw a year ago, possibly same kittens with the Mother we watched two years earlier as well.

Always hope people visiting do give them a little sustenance to keep them from hunting birds or lizards.

oh that would be awesome if they were the same ones!
Yes it is good if they can get something from us humans without having to hunt lizards or birds.

The feral cats certainly look very happy and seem to have many cosy spots in your garden!
A work colleague used to feed them on our office balcony, and take them to be neutered. I think they may play a role in keeping the rat population down in the city centre?
Lovely photos Joan.
Have a great week🤗

These were gardens in St Lucia, with Woody in our garden no wild cats would venture through.

My son has a cat in the flatlet but she is not allowed to roam around alone. Arriving from stray cat population, very nervous of the big outdoors, possibly hurt when very young with a leg that was broken when they got her.

Have a wonderful week, stray cats neutered are helping keep rat population down in cities, pity we don't have a few bigger cats roaming for monkey population control....

Thanks for visiting and have a great week.

Fascinating! I am from Connecticut, and people up there used to be allowed to raise ocelots, which is crazy!

I love that wild cat, the markings are incredible!

When young town folk had a family who had a serval cat as a pet, owners of a fish and chip store being very young we never went close to it. Special license would be required today, more frowned upon than accepted if not on a farm.

Cats are stunning when out in the wild, not sure about restraining them into pets would be good outcome for them.

I never think it is a good idea, but, when I was growing up, it was acceptable and I never questioned it. It does seem a bit odd to me now... why would anyone restrain a wild cat and relegate it to their home?

Nice to have cats as pets, hope they are all neutered and up to date with injections to stop spread of kittens or disease. More pets more responsibility always.

A lovely post about the stray tabby cats, Joan. They certainly seem good pals and I’m happy they look healthy. They will miss you.

I didn’t know about the African wildcat until you mentioned them.

Have a great rest of the week. 😊

Visitors to the region normally love animals, sure to have plate of food somewhere within the resort.

Strays down our way don't have to orange marking which indicates possible close lineage to the wild cat population.

Thanks for visit and dropping a comment Jo.
