Tafel Beer - Namibia Breweries

Chilled mug with beer from fridge an essential during hot season on Durban coast, lite crisp lager, refreshing during the day in fine Reinheitsgebot lite beer drinking.

Bottle poured a relatively good head considering heat outdoors, the head did not last long with all with bubbles disappearing within a minute leaving a small layer of bubbles while you sipped away.

This did not take away the great taste, I do enjoy slight bitterness this beer has to offer at the end of a day, winter will be the time to taste test Tafel Lager as well.

Personally I only ever drink beer out of glass and normally don't bother with a mug unless I remember to do the odd photography on the golden delicious liquid.

There are a few beers offered by Namibia Breweries will be sure to taste test more soon.

BRIEF HISTORY OF BEER IN NAMIBIA?

Until the late 1800’s, beer in the then South West Africa, was imported from Germany. The imported beer had a high alcohol content to preserve it during the long journey to Namibia by sea. It quickly became obvious that the beer was too strong for consumption in the hot African climate. It is then that entrepreneurs started brewing beer locally.

By 1920 four local breweries had been established, namely:? Omaruru Brauerei, Kronenbrauerei in Swakopmund, Klein Windhoek Brauerei as well as Felsenkeller Brauerei, both in Windhoek?.

In the same year, the four breweries were acquired by Carl List and Hermann Ohlthaver who then amalgamated these into the South West Breweries (SWB) and with its location in Windhoek. Source

Now I select price wise between the Heineken, Windhoek and Tafel all offer similar hopsy taste in a glass bottle 😅.

Still do a slight tap dance on hot sand coming off going later, beach was good with families having fun, fishermen catching little to nothing 😄. Dogs run me ragged in 2 kilometer round trip....

I can't even remember the taste of !BEER but it looks cold and fresh and I believe you that it eas delicious 😋

Over here you have to be 18 before you allowed !BEER or !WINE same age to get driving license, everyone wants to be 18!

Enjoy a beer at a braai or when sun goes down, nice to relax before night fall. Something we did as children once a week, a beer-shandy which is a little beer with lemonade 😅 with our parents, only time we were allowed fizzy drink.

For hard drinks you have to be 18 too, and you can make the driving license with 17.
I have had my first beer when I was in the army ... with 17, but then I didn't stop drinking until a few years ago 😁

Only word of warning was from my Dad: "Everything in moderation!", be it food or alcohol, tea or coffee, he maintained nothing was bad unless you abused it.

Your Dad was completely right and if I could smoke moderate only a few cigarettes per day I would still be smoking, and it's the same with beer, but only a few per week would be enough 😋😅

Teenagers don't realize dangers, 'fitting' in is more important. Later excuses add up, yet carry on regardless, living is not a popularity contest 😅

More and more of the teens and even the younger ones have access to hard drinks, beer isn't enough most times. That's a shame and you're right, later there are many excuses ... I was an occasional drinker - I drank at every opportunity 😂 !LOLZ

With driving laws and alcohol, sin tax on alcohol not sure what they drink or smoke today, what I do know is many have totally fried brains, just look at the eyes.

They drink anything that's strong enough and smoke what they get, I believe. I am so happy that my kids are good kids.

My sons now older, never smoked, enjoy an odd beverage socially with friends neither have daily consumption habits which hopefully they maintain throughout their lives.

Yes it is a worry when they are growing up through the years when things can go array, we know well having lived through it.

You can be happy too, Joan. I think the behaviour of the kids much depends on the parents as role models. I have shown my kids how bad it is to drink alcohol and to smoke one cigarette after the other 🤣

Are there any locally craft beer businesses springing up in your area. We have a lot of craft beer/foodie places springing up everywhere. They are extremely popular and doing very well attracting lots of beer enthusiasts.
I so agree with you that a cold beer is very refreshing in the hot weather.

There were many more before covid hit, however some have survived lockdowns, not being able to serve alcohol through prohibition a couple of times. Our tourism and food/drink outlets have all suffered exponentially.

Straight out of state-capture into covid now country is stone broke, many battling to make ends meet.

Cold beer at the end of the day helps with ones sanity to hold on to the reigns! Whatever is operating we support local wherever possible.

Welcome along to beer Saturday, great to have you aboard, I have never tasted or even seen Tafel here in Ireland, I will keep an eye out for it and maybe taste it some day in one of the International Bars. Sláinte
