Watermelon : A foundation to unforgettable Friendship
My childhood memories were so beautiful and lovely.
I grew up in the rural environment, i.e my village, so I can proudly say that those years are so precious and enjoyable.
I did my nursery and primary school at the community school in my village, and I can't forget the cool period there.
Then, I moved to the urban area for my secondary school education, which was for six years.
During this period I often visit my village to spend the holidays.
Having described my background, I won't doubt me or see it as a weird something if I tell you a little bit about my first encounter with WATERMELON that I remember.
Then watermelon is hardly seen in my village because it is not a fruit we grow.
It was mostly planted by the northern part of my country.
It is then transported to various parts of the country to enjoy.
The first place to get access to this fruit when imported to my state is the urban areas.
Still causing the scarcity in the rural areas.
We didn't care about this fruit as well, because we had lots of fruits in abundance in the rural areas.
We had and enjoyed fruits like local apple, local pear, avocado, orange, tangerine, local grape, banana, pineapple, guava, star apple, africa bush mango, different species of mango, and some other local fruits I can't remember their names.
When I went to the urban area for my secondary school education, I saw watermelon in its glory.
I still couldn't afford to buy it or will I say I found it strange to buy it, because I freely enjoyed lots of fruits in the rural area without buying them.
I made a friend then "Grace" during the first visiting day.
The mom brought food (rice and stew with beef) and large watermelon.
Grace, who was still crying and missing home, couldn't eat much.
Especially the watermelon, she said she doesn't like watermelon.
I didn't show or say it would be my first time eating watermelon.
The fruit looks delicious, and I love fruits, so why not.
I thanked her, collected it, and took a bite.......oh my delicious 😋
I finished the large portion within minutes, I was full and satisfied that I couldn't eat any other thing.
The next time the mom visited Grace told her mom how much I like watermelon and her mom promised to visit us again with large portion sizes.
Her mom was just happy that Grace isn't moody unlike before, being my friend also changed her positively according to the mom.
Though, I didn't know the impact we are drawing from each other.
So, getting what her daughter's friend enjoys wouldn't be a problem.
It was later that I discovered that watermelon wasn't that expensive then unlike now.
My village now plants and grows watermelon but it didn't make it cheaper to afford, the economy wouldn't allow that.
I just remembered this experience when I was eating watermelon this afternoon.
I wish I can turn back time😫
I ate a little portion of watermelon which didn't even satisfy me and it was expensive.
In everything I give God the glory.
I don't why i remembered this all of a sudden after all these years😂😂
Photos are taken by me.
Photos was published in my actifit report post.
Thank you very much for reading.
Do enjoy your weekend 😊
Glad your first experience of watermelon 🍉 was with the sweet ones 😂😂😂
Some watermelon cannot make heaven.
It's either their are all white inside or they are red but not sweet.
With my escapades as a fruit vendor, I found out that those northerners know the sweet ones.
So I used to love buying from them
It was also cheap then.
I remember I would use one watermelon to make at least 18- 22 bowls of fruit salad.
Of course combining with other fruits like pineapple, apple, coconut and carrot.
Come to think of it today I was seeing red red watermelons but I was too scared to buy😂😂😂
Make them no break my heart.
I usually love the juicy ones.
I think they usually come out at this time of the year though.
So I think I should have some faith and give it a try too.
Thank you for sharing your memories.
It was beautiful to read.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Some watermelon won't make heaven !INDEED for breaking your heart oo
I hardly eat unsweetened watermelon oo
The red ones are very juicy and sweet.
Yes,I think it is in season.
Despite that, it is more expensive than before.
Give it a try by buying.
That small one you are seeing there is three hundred naira oo
Something I used to by hundred naira.
Mehn.
It is well with our country 😃
It is oo
