I continue here, with my incipient need for silence, which I can almost be sure is born in this absence of thoughts that sometimes happens to me. I don't know if this is a direct consequence of fibromyalgia or if it has to do (as my mother claims) with the volatility of character inherited from my grandfather Marcos (her father) who, according to her, could plant 5 hectares of tobacco in a week and sit for days praying in silence with his head down without wanting to do anything else. Be that as it may, when I am like this, I feel an exquisite clarity in my consciousness...

Continúo aquí, con mi incipiente necesidad de silencio, la cual casi puedo asegurar que nace en esta ausencia de pensamientos que a veces suele ocurrirme. Desconozco si esto se trata de una consecuencia directa de la fibromialgia o si tiene que ver (tal como asegura mi madre) con la volatilidad de carácter heredada de mi abuelo Marcos (su padre) quien según ella cuenta, lo mismo podía sembrar 5 hectáreas de tabaco en una semana que estar sentado durante días orando en silencio con la cabeza gacha sin querer hacer nada más. Sea como sea, cuando estoy así, siento una claridad exquisita en mi consciencia...

On days like these, I can do some really strange things... For example, today I shaved my face after showering and used my "mouthwash" as aftershave lotion!... This may seem funny (and it is) but I really wouldn't want to go the other way and end up rinsing my mouth with that lotion called "BRUT" whose amount of alcohol and mentholated pine essence make it anything less than drinkable!...

En días como estos, puedo hacer cosas realmente extrañas... Por ejemplo, hoy afeité mi rostro después de ducharme y usé mi "enjuague bucal" como loción para después de afeitarme!... Esto puede parecer gracioso (y vaya que lo es) pero la verdad no me gustaría equivocarme a la inversa y terminar enjuagando mi boca con esa loción llamada "BRUT" cuya cantidad de alcohol y esencia de pino mentolado la hacen cualquier cosa menos que potable!...

By the way, I listen to Bach's music... I like Bach, I like listening to his compositions on days like these, when my mind seems to be full of mists that come and go. In fact, I've been listening to him since I was 12 or 13, when I found one of those cassette tapes. I think it was a classical music promotion which came with the purchase of a variety magazine from my mother. I don't know the names of the melodies, I'm really bad at memorising them, but I usually look for Bach compilations on Youtube and play them while I'm in front of my PC... I love that...

Por cierto, escucho música de Bach... Me gusta Bach, me gusta escuchar sus composiciones en días como estos, en los que mi mente parece estar repleta de nieblas que van y vienen. De hecho, le escucho desde mis 12 o 13 años, cuando encontré un cassete de aquellos de cinta magnética. Creo que se trataba de una promoción de música clásica la cual venía incluida con la compra de una revista de variedades de mi madre. No me sé el nombre de sus melodías, la verdad soy malo para memorizar eso, pero suelo buscar recopilaciones de Bach en Youtube y hacerlas sonar mientras estoy enfrente de mi PC... Amo eso...

And if I'm not listening to Bach (my favourite, as I said) then I'm listening to Joseph Haynd... I remember that I fell in love with his melodies when I started working as a programmer during the evenings in the late 80s and I used to carry a nice Sony Walkman tape player with me... Haynd made me feel more creative than Bach, but also less sedate, which was good for my long nightly bouts of programming in Cobol language accompanied by espresso coffee and a pack of red Marlboros... Those were the days of my youth... ;)

Y si no estoy escuchando a Bach (mi favorito, tal como dije) entonces escucho a Joseph Haynd... Recuero que me enamoré de sus melodías cuando comencé a trabajar como programador durante las noches a finales de los años 80 y solía llevar conmigo un lindo reproductor Sony Walkman para cintas magnéticas... Haynd me hacía sentirme más creativo que Bach, aunque también menos sosegado, lo cual era bueno para mis largas tandas nocturnas de programación en lenguaje Cobol acompañadas de café expreso una cajetilla de Marlboro rojo... ¡Aquellos tiempos de juventud, caray!... ;)

Classical music is like sacred books to me... I also listen to Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Brahms, Handel and many more... But I don't remember the names of their melodies, nor their nationalities and epochs... In fact, I sometimes confuse them when I listen to them... The same thing happens to me with those books: The Bible, The Bhagavad Gita, The Tao te King, The Torah and many others.... I have read them for as long as I can read and have memory of them. And I remember passages and affirmations, I am fascinated by the wisdom contained in them... But, I don't remember where I read each thing, much less remember the authors, chapters, verses and such... I can almost be sure that for me they are one and the same source of reading... I know it sounds a bit strange, but I find it hard to "organise" things, including my hobbies and tastes...

Con la música clásica me pasa como con los libros sagrados... Escucho también a Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Brahms, Händel y varios más... Pero no recuerdo los nombres de sus melodías, ni sus nacionalidades y épocas... De hecho, a veces los confundo al oírles... Lo mismo me pasa con esos libros: La Biblia, El Bhagavad Gita, EL Tao te King, La Torah y muchos otros... Los he leído desde que sé leer y tengo memoria de ello. Y recuerdo pasajes y afirmaciones, me fascina la sabiduría contenida en ellos... Pero, no recuero en donde leo cada cosa, mucho menos me recuerdo de los autores, capítulos, versículos y cosas por el estilo... Casi puedo asegurar que para mi conforman una misma fuente de lectura... Sé que suena un poco extraño, pero me cuesta "organizar" las cosas, inclusive mis aficiones y gustos.

And also, sometimes I still listen to Silvio, Pablo, Aute, Cortazar, Cabral, Sabina and others... Because in their own way they are poetry, because in their poetry they are wisdom, because in their sound they are magicians, because in their magic they transcended and they made us transcend with them... How beautiful it is when I have these "mists in my head" because with them I forget the walls and ceilings and only the libertine, defiant and irreverent soul remains, showing its index finger, as a courtesy to those lacking in light...

Y también, a veces sigo escuchando a Silvio, a Pablo, a Aute, a Cortazar, a Cabral, a Sabina y a otros... Porque a su manera son poesía, porque en su poesía son sabiduría, porque en su sonido son magos, porque en su magia trascendieron y nos hicieron trascender a nosotros con ellos... Que bonito es cuando tengo estas "nieblas en mi cabeza" porque con ellas se me olvidan las paredes y los techos y solo queda el alma libertina, desafiante e irreverente, enseñando su dedo indice, como cortesía a los carentes de luces...
