They are in prime position for a long run of decent seasons. They need one more primetime player to get them to that next level and be seriously considered championship material.

Would the Knicks need to be an offensive team like many other NBA teams, or can they benefit by being built along the lines of the Pat Riley-era teams (Ewing, Starks, Oakley, Mason, etc.)?

Offense is OK; it's what gets a team to D playoffs. What the Knicks cannot have (as Clyde likes to say) is Matador-D. To win a championship, the Knicks will need both Hall of Famers-to-be as well as (also as Clyde likes to say) Maniacal-D.
