Wayuu Bag - Part One

La magia del crochet y sus múltiples manifestaciones a través de diferentes técnicas me deja fascinada. Es que cada vez que se de una técnica la quiero explorar y experimentar, la quiero saborear con mis manos al ritmo de la alegría, entusiasmo y deseo de hacerla mía.

The magic of crochet and its multiple manifestations through different techniques leaves me fascinated. The thing is that every time I learn a technique I want to explore and experiment it, I want to savor it with my hands to the rhythm of joy, enthusiasm and desire to make it mine.

Hace unos aproximadamente cinco años aprendí a tejer la técnica wayuu a través de una indígena, eso fue maravilloso, porque aparte de enseñarnos a tejer, nos enseñó el significado de lo que es tejer para ellos y cómo se inspiran en sus creaciones. Es que realmente, me estaba enseñando alguien nacido en la Goajira (zona en donde habitan los wayuus). Los indígenas son muy celosos con su cultura, el hecho de aprender de esta indígena fue una absoluta bendición.

About five years ago I learned to weave the Wayuu technique through an indigenous woman, that was wonderful, because apart from teaching us how to weave, she taught us the meaning of what weaving is for them and how they are inspired by their creations. Actually, someone born in Goajira (the area where the Wayuus live) was teaching me. The indigenous people are very jealous of her culture, the fact of learning from this indigenous person was an absolute blessing.

Este proyecto surge de la necesidad de que mi bolso en donde guardo el mat (alfombra en donde hago yoga) está deteriorado, así que me planteé hacer el bolso en esta técnica, ya que el resultado es resistente y muy vistoso en cuanto a colores.

Los hilos utilizados para hacer este tipo de proyecto es del tipo acrílico, todos los colores seleccionados participan juntos durante el proyecto, ese es el reto del proyecto, mantenerlos juntos y que no se enreden.

This project arises from the need that my bag where I keep the mat (carpet where I do yoga) is damaged, so I considered making the bag in this technique, since the result is resistant and very attractive in terms of colors.

The threads used to make this type of project are acrylic, all the selected colors participate together during the project, that is the challenge of the project, keeping them together and not getting tangled.

Seleccioné cuatro colores de hilos, me encanta la gama seleccionada. El bolso de alto tendrá una altura de 80 centímetros y apenas he tejido 15 centímetros.

Esta labor inicia con el poderoso anillo mágico y a parir de la segunda vuelta las cuatro hebras de hilos se acompañan una a la otra mientras voy tejiendo.

I selected four colors of threads, I love the range selected. The tall bag will be 80 centimeters high and I have only knitted 15 centimeters.

This work begins with the powerful magic ring and from the second round the four strands of threads accompany each other while I knit.

Inicié siguiendo un patrón y luego dejé de seguirlo, voy armando las formas a medida que tejo, claro seguramente tengo una influencia a partir de haber vistos tantos patrones y formas.

I started following a pattern and then I stopped following it, I put together the shapes as I knit, of course I surely have an influence from having seen so many patterns and shapes.

Es fascinante la forma que va tomando mi bolso, aún me falta mucho camino por recorrer, más sé que lo terminaré y quedará absolutamente hermoso.
