The relatives of the most recent deceased take care of the graves of their relatives or pay a local worker to change the flowers and keep the weeds under control, clean the marble etc during their absence.

Abandonment and negligence. Many times the same people who are hired to take care of tombs and mausoleums are scammers and sell pieces of architecture, etc.

These caisson graves are unusual in my culture, as I approached, there were many American names there.

Hello community, @urbanexploration, today I am sharing photos of one of the most interesting places in the city, but unfortunately neglected, forgotten and in the worst conditions.

All the cemeteries in my city, Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela are in a terrible state of abandonment, but this one in particular is a separate case due to all the history behind it, being the first cemetery in the city, a built historical heritage at the time of the construction of the City in the 1800s.

If you look closely, the tombs and mausoleums are made of marble. Fine quality Italian marble. They cost the locals and very old people, who used to be buried in that place the "rich of the city", most of them Italian or Spanish, illustrious characters from the history of my City also rest there. In this expedition a group of colleagues went to keep us company since the place has become a dangerous area. Homeless and thugs live there who dig up the graves to sell the marble and also human remains for witchcraft. There are tombs there which date from the late 1700s. For me it was an absolute shock. Since I was little, I saw that place with fear and since it is at full capacity, I don't have any acquaintances or relatives there.

The shock was first having the story in front of my face. I reflected on life and death and so many other things. I envisioned those people in period clothing on horses or the means of transportation of the late 1700s. As you go up the hill, the experience becomes more complex because the air is thick and it was hard for me and several colleagues to breathe. The guide who took us is a regular at the place, but we are not. It is a steep mini mountain (actually a gigantic rock) and when you reach the end you can appreciate a spectacular view of the City. I couldn't accompany them there because the day was rainy and I was really short of breath. A colleague and I were a bit behind. Despite all these details and not to mention the obvious, this place is like a time machine where the facts are encapsulated at the distance of a touch.

Thankyou for reading me 💕
