Esta manera de describir el pontificado del Papa Francisco no es mía, sino que pertenece a un medio de noticias católicas y que en realidad caracteriza de una muy buena manera este papado, en efecto, así como la primavera es signo de una nueva vida, así también el Papa Francisco le ha dado una savia de vida nueva a toda la Iglesia, tanto desde el punto de vista institucional como de cada uno en particular que somos quienes la conformamos.

Sus propuestas son una especie de revolución, y es que su misma elección ya está marcada por esto, en efecto, es el primer papa latinoamericano de la historia, lo cual a los que pertenecemos a esta parte del mundo no solo nos llena de inmensa alegría, sino que también nos hace percibir un poco más certeramente la esencia de sus planteamientos. Para mí los mismos tienen como centro los siguientes puntos:

Inclusión de todos

Hace apenas unos días (el pasado 6 de agosto) tuvo lugar en Lisboa (Portugal) el encuentro mundial del Papa con algunos jóvenes católicos del mundo entero, en el mismo una de sus frases preferidas fueron las que tenían que ver con dejar claro que la Iglesia es un lugar para todos. De hecho, en varias ocasiones hizo corear a más de un millón y medio de personas asistentes al evento el estribillo "todos, todos, todos...

Esto no es algo nuevo en su magisterio, el cual ha estado signado desde los inicios por este afán evangélico de incluir a todos, pues es lo más acorde a los deseos de Dios. De allí su empeño en transmitir la necesidad de ir a lo que él llama las periferias no solo físicas sino existenciales, que es la que viven aquellas personas que son y/o se sienten discriminadas.

La iglesia, un hospital

Una de las imágenes icónicas de sus enseñanzas es la que nos dice que la Iglesia se parece a un hospital, ¿quiénes asisten a un hospital? Pues, todos los que lo necesiten: heridos, enfermos, los aquejados por alguna molestia, etc. Así también debemos comprender la Iglesia, ella es un hospital donde asistimos, no solo por estar enfermos físicamente sino porque nuestro espíritu lo necesita, sea por heridas internas que sanar, errores que rectificar, fuerza interior que buscar.

De allí que los que principalmente somos bienvenidos somos los pecadores, no los santos, en efecto, es la humildad lo que nos permite estar en presencia de Dios con tranquilidad y confianza, ya que - como una persona escribió en las puertas de una iglesia - "Nadie es tan pecador que no merezca estar aquí ni tan santo para no necesitarlo."

Evangelizar con alegría

Finalmente, me gustaría resaltar que todo el mensaje del Evangelio es una buena noticia - como nos enseña la etimología de la palabra - por ello, este papa ha insistido mucho en que debemos transmitirlo con alegría, por ello, tres de sus más importantes exhortaciones llevan esta palabra en su título: "La alegría del Evangelio"(2013), "La alegría del amor"(2016) y "Exulten y alégrense"(2018)".

Esto no es una simple fórmula, sino que ha de ser el estilo de vida de los anunciantes. En unos días, iré con un grupo de jóvenes a misionar, el cual es un estilo de evangelización donde salimos a determinados lugares a llevar el mensaje de la Buena Nueva, la principal herramienta que llevamos en nuestros morrales, no es otra que manifestar de manera genuina la alegría de la fe.

This way of describing the pontificate of Pope Francis is not mine, but belongs to a Catholic news media and that actually characterizes in a very good way this papacy, in fact, just as spring is a sign of new life, so also Pope Francis has given a sap of new life to the whole Church, both from the institutional point of view and from the point of view of each one in particular who are those of us who make it up.

His proposals are a kind of revolution, and his very election is already marked by this, in fact, he is the first Latin American pope in history, which not only fills those of us who belong to this part of the world with immense joy, but also makes us perceive a little more accurately the essence of his proposals. For me, they are centered on the following points:

Inclusion of all

Just a few days ago (August 6) the Pope held a world meeting in Lisbon (Portugal) with young Catholics from all over the world, where one of his favorite phrases was to make it clear that the Church is a place for everyone. In fact, on several occasions he made the more than 1.5 million people attending the event chant the refrain *"everyone, everyone, everyone...".

This is not something new in his teaching, which has been marked from the beginning by this evangelical eagerness to include everyone, since it is the most in accordance with God's wishes. Hence his insistence on transmitting the need to go to what he calls the peripheries, not only physical but also existential, which are those people who are and/or feel discriminated against.

The church, a hospital

One of the iconic images of his teachings is the one that tells us that the Church resembles a hospital, who attends a hospital? Well, all those who need it: the wounded, the sick, those afflicted by some kind of discomfort, etc. In the same way we must also understand the Church, she is a hospital where we attend, not only because we are physically sick but also because our spirit needs it, be it for internal wounds to heal, mistakes to rectify, inner strength to seek.

Hence, it is mainly sinners, not saints, who are welcome, for it is humility that allows us to be in God's presence with tranquility and confidence, since - as one person wrote on the doors of a church - "No one is so sinful that he does not deserve to be here, nor so holy that he does not need it".

Evangelizing with joy

Finally, I would like to emphasize that the whole message of the Gospel is good news - as the etymology of the word teaches us - therefore, this pope has insisted very much that we must transmit it with joy, which is why three of his most important exhortations bear this word in their title: "The Joy of the Gospel"(2013), "The Joy of Love"(2016) and "Exult and Rejoice"(2018)".

This is not just a formula, but it has to be the lifestyle of the announcers. In a few days, I will go with a group of young people on mission, which is a style of evangelization where we go out to certain places to bring the message of the Good News, the main tool that we carry in our backpacks, is none other than to genuinely manifest the joy of faith.
