Hello to all dear reading lovers.... I hope you are having a very good day, on this occasion I want to share with you a review of a novel that has captured my attention... I had seen it in the category of best novels in recent years, but I had never given it a chance as such, until recently that I finished it, this novel has gone on to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction... The story revolves around Ignatius J. Reilly, an eccentric and grotesque character who lives with his beloved mother in New Orleans... this character is a figure that is often described as a Don Quixote, full of contradictions and with a perspective of the world that often clashes with the reality of the 60's in the United States.

Ignatius is a man in his 30's... very overweight, dresses rather poorly and with a worldview that clings to mediaeval ideals, he considers himself a scholar, misunderstood, intellectually superior to all those around him, which makes him unable to hold down a job or maintain a relationship. His life takes a dramatic turn when his mother, after a car accident, forces him to look for a job to pay for the damages. From here, this man will embark on a series of jobs that turn out to be mostly somewhat monstrous.. first in a pants factory and then as a traveling salesman. These encounters will provide a thread to connect a plot and an absurdist humor that is very characteristic and which I think is the main reason why this novel has appealed to so many people.

Hola a todos queridos amantes de la lectura.. Espero que estén teniendo un muy buen día, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una reseña sobre una novela que ha capturado mi atención.. La había visto en la categoría de mejores novelas de los últimos años, pero nunca le había dado una oportunidad como tal, hasta hace poco que la terminé, esta novela ha llegado a ganar el premio Pulitzer de ficción.. La historia gira a Ignatius J. Reilly, un personaje excéntrico y grotesco que vive con su querida madre en Nueva Orleans.. este personaje es una figura que a menudo es descrita como un Don Quijote, lleno de contradicciones y con una perspectiva del mundo que choca muchas veces con la realidad de los años 60 en Estados Unidos.

Ignatius es un hombre de unos 30 años.. muy subido de peso, se viste bastante mal y con una visión del mundo que se aferran en los ideales mediabales, se considera un erudito, incomprendido, superior intelectualmente a todos los que lo rodean, lo que lo hace incapaz de mantener un trabajo o una relación.. Su vida da un giro dramático cuando su madre, después de un accidente de tráfico, lo obliga a buscar trabajo para pagar los daños. A partir de aquí, este hombre se embarcará en una serie de empleos que resultan mayormente algo de monstruosos.. primero en una fábrica de pantalones y luego como vendedor ambulante. Estos encuentros proporcionarán un hilo para conectar una trama y un humor absurdo muy característico y que creo que es la principal razón por la cual esta novela ha atraído a mucha gente.

One of the things that makes this novel really interesting is its cast of characters... each one has their own peculiarities, and when interacting with the protagonist they always result in tragic and hilarious ways or situations. His mother is a woman with a drinking problem who struggles to deal with her son's constant irresponsibility. Other memorable characters include a radical activist and former love interest of Ignatius, and a black man who works in the pants factory...this character provides a critical perspective on the social segregation and injustice experienced by black people at the time.

I found the humor of the novel itself to be quite unique, surely some readers will find Ignatius' antics or arrogance somewhat hilarious, but others may find his character quite off-putting. However, all these parts of the author's genius have created a character for us that is simultaneously repulsive, yet interesting. He is a self-styled hero who, because of his lack of self-awareness and his resistance to modernity, offers a very direct critique of American society and its values. The author of this novel has very rich prose and is very good at describing the lives of the people of New Orleans. His descriptions are quite vivid and most of them are quite funny. He has a special talent for dialogue, manages to capture us with an interesting pace and authentic characters that serve to be able to hook us with them for their stories.

Una de las cosas que hace a esta novela algo realmente interesante es su elenco de personajes.. cada uno tiene sus propias peculiaridades, y al momento de interactuar con el protagonista siempre resultan maneras o situaciones trágicas e hilarantes. La madre de este señor es una mujer con problemas de alcoholismo que lucha por manejar la irresponsabilidad constante de su hijo.. Entre otros personajes memorables incluyen a una activista radical y antiguo interés amoroso de Ignatius, y a un hombre negro que trabaja en la fábrica de pantalones.. este personaje nos proporciona una perspectiva crítica sobre toda esa segregación social e injusticia que vivían las personas negras en esa época.

El humor de la novela en sí me pareció bastante único, seguramente algunos lectores encontrarán a las travesuras o arrogancia de Ignatius algo hilarante, pero otros pueden encontrar su carácter bastante desagradable. Sin embargo, todas estas partes del genio que tiene el autor, nos ha creado un personaje que es simultáneamente repulsivo, pero interesante. Es se cree un héroe que y debido a su falta de autoconciencia y su resistencia a la modernidad, ofrece una crítica muy directa a lo que es la sociedad estadounidense y a sus valores. El autor de esta novela tiene una prosa muy rica y es muy bueno describiendo la vida de los habitantes de Nueva Orleans. Sus descripciones son bastante vívidas y la mayor parte de ellas son bastante graciosas. Tiene un talento especial para el diálogo, logra capturarnos con un ritmo interesante y unos personajes auténticos que sirven para poder engancharnos con ellos por sus historias.

One of the most striking aspects of this novel is how the author of this one manages to devise a social critique within a comic narrative, through the protagonist and his various interactions, all those hypocrisies and absurdities of the longed-for American dream are shown... all the bureaucracy, racism, and socioeconomic disparities that distinguish all these people. This makes this story a work that is not only entertaining, but can also make you think a lot, this read was a thought provoking and laugh out loud experience for me.

Although I didn't always laugh out loud, the intelligence and wit behind the writing is very good...I think you can see quite a bit of effort the author had in trying to capture this. Although there were times when I felt a bit frustrated by the character's stubbornness, I still think I could feel some empathy for him. He is a character that despite his many flaws, shows a universal struggle against conformity and mediocrity, I would give this read a 4/5 rating.

The combination of humor, social criticism and memorable characters make this book very interesting! Although it can be challenging in some respects, it is highly recommended...it is a novel that invites discussion and analysis. Surely if you manage to read it, you will laugh and think...surely you will want to discuss with someone about this curious character. Well, I hope you liked this review. See you in the next ones. Uno de los aspectos más llamativos de esta novela es cómo el autor de esta logra idear una crítica social dentro de una narrativa cómica, a través del protagonista y sus diversas interacciones, se muestran todas aquellas hipocresías y absurdas cosas del tan ansiado sueño americano... toda la burocracia, el racismo, y las disparidades socioeconómicas que distinguen a todas estas personas. Esto convierte esta historia en una obra que no solo es entretenida, sino que también puede hacerte reflexionar mucho, esta lectura fue una experiencia que me hizo reflexionar y reír.

Aunque no siempre me reía carcajadas, la inteligencia y el ingenio que está detrás de la escritura es muy bueno.. creo que se nota bastante el esfuerzo que tuvo el autor en tratar de plasmar esto. Aunque hubo momentos en los que me sentí un poco frustrado por la obstinación del personaje, aún así creo que pude sentir algo de empatía por él. Es un personaje que a pesar de sus muchos defectos, muestra una lucha universal contra la conformidad y la mediocridad, yo le daría a esta lectura una calificación de 4/5.

La combinación de humor, crítica social y personajes memorables hacen que este libro sea muy interesante! Aunque puede ser desafiante en algunos aspectos, es altamente recomendable.. es una novela que invita a ser discutida y analizada. Seguramente si logran leerla, lograrán reír y pensar.. seguramente querrán discutir con alguien sobre este tan curioso personaje. Bueno, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña.
