Happy Tuesday!
In the previous article I'd talk about Feedback, a great way to boost your learning curve by making sure that you get corrections on your performance. However, there are different types, each with Its advantages and disadvantages, but making sure that you get the right one in each situation is essential.
Now that we know this, we can go on to explain different strategies that you can apply to get better feedback, feedback that you can apply to your practice and become a master because of It. Let's take a look at them:
Noise-Cancelling Method
This is a concept that's more used in the world of Sound Engineering and telecommunications. Sometimes when a signal, whether It's audio or radio is emitted, there will be different factors that will corrupt the signal and by the time It gets to a receptor, It's just an imitation of the original one.
To solve this, engineers process the signal by eliminating or reducing those frequencies that are unwanted and they keep or boost the ones that are important to the signal. This is basically what we'll do with our feedback in the noise-cancelling method.
You see, Not all types of feedback are valuable in certain situations. Sometimes we might get praise or advice from people who aren't part of the people we want to affect. If you're selling a product for 20-year-old men and you get feedback from a 50-year-old woman, It won't be as valuable.
In order to apply this method, we should verify that we are getting the right feedback from the right people. Some ways to do this is through algorithms that show us the information about our objective public. For example, If we write articles, a great type of feedback would be the amount of people who finish our articles.
Metafeedback
With metafeedback, we just have to take a point of reference to see how much and how fast we are improving. By taking a look at our learning curve we can take feedback in the following ways:
- If we get bigger returns for our efforts, then we know that the methods we are applying are working and that replication is an ideal condition.
- If we get diminishing returns with a method that we've been using before, then we know It's time to change.
In this way, by checking how effective are we learning, we are getting feedback from ourselves, which we can quickly apply to improve.
High Intensity Rapid Feedback
Many people don't improve because of the fear of getting feedback. The problem is, most times, the fear is bigger than the gravity of the feedback. People don't want to crush your ego and they will give you advice based on your work.
So, what If you could get all the feedback you could at the beginning? Well, you would improve 100% quicker than anybody else. By getting frequent feedback since the start of your learning process, you'll get rid of the initial doubts and you would take a more active approach that would improve your motivation in the long run.
I hope these strategies could have been of use to you, making your skill acquisition skill a much shorter highway. I encourage you to get feedback and surpass the fear, as the only person who can achieve what you want is yourself.
